<p class="bodytext">Then Jesus said,<n id="1" /> &#8220;When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he,<n id="2" /> and I do nothing on my own initiative,<n id="3" /> but I speak just what the Father taught me.<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> the Judeans<n id="2" /> responded,<n id="3" /> &#8220;Now we know you&#8217;re possessed by a demon!<n id="4" /> Both Abraham and the prophets died, and yet<n id="5" /> you say, &#8216;If anyone obeys<n id="6" /> my teaching,<n id="7" /> he will never experience<n id="8" /> death.&#8217;<n id="9" />

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;If I glorify myself, my glory is worthless.<n id="2" /> The one who glorifies me is my Father, about whom you people<n id="3" /> say, &#8216;He is our God.&#8217;

Yet<n id="1" /> you do not know him, but I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him,<n id="2" /> I would be a liar like you. But I do know him, and I obey<n id="3" /> his teaching.<n id="4" />

The man replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;This is a remarkable thing,<n id="2" /> that you don&#8217;t know where he comes from, and yet he caused me to see!<n id="3" />

Jesus<n id="1" /> said,]<n id="2" /> &#8220;For judgment I have come into this world, so that those who do not see may gain their sight,<n id="3" /> and the ones who see may become blind.&#8221;p>

The hired hand,<n id="1" /> who is not a shepherd and does not own sheep, sees the wolf coming and abandons<n id="2" /> the sheep and runs away.<n id="3" /> So the wolf attacks<n id="4" /> the sheep and scatters them.

No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down<n id="1" /> of my own free will.<n id="2" /> I have the authority<n id="3" /> to lay it down, and I have the authority<n id="4" /> to take it back again. This commandment<n id="5" /> I received from my Father.&#8221;p>

The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> surrounded him and asked,<n id="2" /> &#8220;How long will you keep us in suspense?<n id="3" /> If you are the Christ,<n id="4" /> tell us plainly.&#8221;<n id="5" />

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I told you and you do not believe. The deeds<n id="2" /> I do in my Father&#8217;s name testify about me.

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Are there not twelve hours in a day? If anyone walks around in the daytime, he does not stumble,<n id="2" /> because he sees the light of this world.<n id="3" />

Then the people<n id="1" /> who were with Mary<n id="2" /> in the house consoling her saw her<n id="3" /> get up quickly and go out. They followed her, because they thought she was going to the tomb to weep<n id="4" /> there.p>

(His disciples did not understand these things when they first happened,<n id="1" /> but when Jesus was glorified,<n id="2" /> then they remembered that these things were written about him and that these things had happened<n id="3" /> to him.)<n id="4" />p>

The one who loves his life<n id="1" /> destroys<n id="2" /> it, and the one who hates his life in this world guards<n id="3" /> it for eternal life.

The one who rejects me and does not accept<n id="1" /> my words has a judge;<n id="2" /> the word<n id="3" /> I have spoken will judge him at the last day.

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;What I am saying does not refer to all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture,<n id="1" /> &#8216;<b><i>The one who eats my breadi>b><n id="2" /> <b><i>has turned against mei>b>.&#8217;<n id="3" />

Some thought that, because Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him to buy whatever they needed for the feast,<n id="1" /> or to give something to the poor.)<n id="2" />

You heard me say to you,<n id="1" /> &#8216;I am going away and I am coming back to you.&#8217; If you loved me, you would be glad<n id="2" /> that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.<n id="3" />

If you belonged to the world,<n id="1" /> the world would love you as its own.<n id="2" /> However, because you do not belong to the world,<n id="3" /> but I chose you out of the world, for this reason<n id="4" /> the world hates you.<n id="5" />

Remember what<n id="1" /> I told you, &#8216;A slave<n id="2" /> is not greater than his master.&#8217;<n id="3" /> If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they obeyed<n id="4" /> my word, they will obey<n id="5" /> yours too.
