Now look, you must be trusting in Egypt, that splintered reed staff. If a man leans for support on it, it punctures his hand and wounds him. That is what Pharaoh king of Egypt does to all who trust in him.

So Naaman came with his horses and chariots and stood in the doorway of Elisha’s house.

Later King Ben Hadad of Syria assembled his entire army and attacked ¹  and besieged Samaria. ²

His servants conspired against him ¹  and murdered Joash at Beth-Millo, on the road that goes down to Silla. ²

Joash passed away ¹  and Jeroboam succeeded him on the throne. ²  Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.

Ahaz passed away ¹  and was buried with his ancestors in the city of David. His son Hezekiah replaced him as king.

So the Lord was furious ¹  with Israel and rejected them; ²  only the tribe of Judah was left.

Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a scroll.” Shaphan read it out loud before the king.

The king asked the woman about it, and she gave him the details. ¹  The king assigned a eunuch to take care of her request and ordered him, ²  “Give her back everything she owns, as well as the amount of crops her field produced from the day she left the land until now.”

The king stood by the pillar and renewed ¹  the covenant before the Lord, agreeing to follow ²  the Lord and to obey his commandments, laws, and rules with all his heart and being, ³  by carrying out the terms ⁴  of this covenant recorded on this scroll. All the people agreed to keep the covenant. ⁵ 

Elisha traveled to Damascus while King Ben Hadad of Syria was sick. The king ¹  was told, “The prophet ²  has come here.”

Azariah passed away ¹  and was buried ²  with his ancestors in the city of David. His son Jotham replaced him as king.

Uriah the priest built an altar in conformity to the plans King Ahaz had sent from Damascus. ¹  Uriah the priest finished it before King Ahaz arrived back from Damascus. ²
