<t /><p class="bodytext">Paul, after staying<n id="1" /> many more days in Corinth,<n id="2" /> said farewell to<n id="3" /> the brothers and sailed away to Syria accompanied by<n id="4" /> Priscilla and Aquila.<n id="5" /> He<n id="6" /> had his hair cut off<n id="7" /> at Cenchrea<n id="8" /> because he had made a vow.<n id="9" />

He began to speak out fearlessly<n id="1" /> in the synagogue,<n id="2" /> but when Priscilla and Aquila<n id="3" /> heard him, they took him aside<n id="4" /> and explained the way of God to him more accurately.

When Apollos<n id="1" /> wanted to cross over to Achaia,<n id="2" /> the brothers encouraged<n id="3" /> him<n id="4" /> and wrote to the disciples to welcome him. When he arrived, he<n id="5" /> assisted greatly those who had believed by grace,

Paul said, &#8220;John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him,<n id="1" /> that is, in Jesus.&#8221;

But when<n id="1" /> some were stubborn<n id="2" /> and refused to believe, reviling<n id="3" /> the Way<n id="4" /> before the congregation, he left<n id="5" /> them and took the disciples with him,<n id="6" /> addressing<n id="7" /> them every day<n id="8" /> in the lecture hall<n id="9" /> of Tyrannus.

But some itinerant<n id="1" /> Jewish exorcists tried to invoke the name<n id="2" /> of the Lord Jesus over those who were possessed by<n id="3" /> evil spirits, saying, &#8220;I sternly warn<n id="4" /> you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.&#8221;

This became known to all who lived in Ephesus,<n id="1" /> both Jews and Greeks; fear came over<n id="2" /> them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was praised.<n id="3" />

Large numbers<n id="1" /> of those who had practiced magic<n id="2" /> collected their books<n id="3" /> and burned them up in the presence of everyone.<n id="4" /> When<n id="5" /> the value of the books was added up, it was found to total fifty thousand silver coins.<n id="6" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now after all these things had taken place,<n id="1" /> Paul resolved<n id="2" /> to go to Jerusalem,<n id="3" /> passing through Macedonia<n id="4" /> and Achaia.<n id="5" /> He said,<n id="6" /> &#8220;After I have been there, I must also see Rome.&#8221;<n id="7" />

After the city secretary<n id="1" /> quieted the crowd, he said, &#8220;Men of Ephesus, what person<n id="2" /> is there who does not know that the city of the Ephesians is the keeper<n id="3" /> of the temple of the great Artemis<n id="4" /> and of her image that fell from heaven?<n id="5" />

On the first day<n id="1" /> of the week, when we met<n id="2" /> to break bread, Paul began to speak<n id="3" /> to the people, and because he intended<n id="4" /> to leave the next day, he extended<n id="5" /> his message until midnight.

A young man named Eutychus, who was sitting in the window,<n id="1" /> was sinking<n id="2" /> into a deep sleep while Paul continued to speak<n id="3" /> for a long time. Fast asleep,<n id="4" /> he fell down from the third story and was picked up dead.

<t /><p class="bodytext">We went on ahead<n id="1" /> to the ship and put out to sea<n id="2" /> for Assos,<n id="3" /> intending<n id="4" /> to take Paul aboard there, for he had arranged it this way.<n id="5" /> He<n id="6" /> himself was intending<n id="7" /> to go there by land.<n id="8" />

<p class="bodytext">When they arrived, he said to them, &#8220;You yourselves know how I lived<n id="1" /> the whole time I was with you, from the first day I set foot<n id="2" /> in the province of Asia,<n id="3" />

After we sighted Cyprus<n id="1" /> and left it behind on our port side,<n id="2" /> we sailed on to Syria and put in<n id="3" /> at Tyre,<n id="4" /> because the ship was to unload its cargo there.

When<n id="1" /> our time was over,<n id="2" /> we left and went on our way. All of them, with their wives and children, accompanied<n id="3" /> us outside of the city. After<n id="4" /> kneeling down on the beach and praying,<n id="5" />

When they heard this, they praised<n id="1" /> God. Then they said to him, &#8220;You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews<n id="2" /> there are who have believed, and they are all ardent observers<n id="3" /> of the law.<n id="4" />

They have been informed about you &#8211; that you teach all the Jews now living<n id="1" /> among the Gentiles to abandon<n id="2" /> Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children<n id="3" /> or live<n id="4" /> according to our customs.

When the seven days were almost over,<n id="1" /> the Jews from the province of Asia<n id="2" /> who had seen him in the temple area<n id="3" /> stirred up the whole crowd<n id="4" /> and seized<n id="5" /> him,
