<t /><p class="bodytext">Now many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the report of the woman who testified,<n id="1" /> &#8220;He told me everything I ever did.&#8221;

When he heard that Jesus had come back from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and begged him<n id="1" /> to come down and heal his son, who was about to die.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> the one who hears<n id="2" /> my message<n id="3" /> and believes the one who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned,<n id="4" /> but has crossed over from death to life.

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="2" /> you are looking for me not because you saw miraculous signs, but because you ate all the loaves of bread you wanted.<n id="3" />

and they said, &#8220;Isn&#8217;t this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, &#8216;I have come down from heaven&#8217;?&#8221;

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come from God and am now here.<n id="2" /> I<n id="3" /> have not come on my own initiative,<n id="4" /> but he<n id="5" /> sent me.

<p class="bodytext">Then they summoned<n id="1" /> the man who used to be blind<n id="2" /> a second time and said to him, &#8220;Promise before God to tell the truth.<n id="3" /> We know that this man<n id="4" /> is a sinner.&#8221;

I have<n id="1" /> other sheep that do not come from<n id="2" /> this sheepfold.<n id="3" /> I must bring them too, and they will listen to my voice,<n id="4" /> so that<n id="5" /> there will be one flock and<n id="6" /> one shepherd.

Then Mary took three quarters of a pound<n id="1" /> of expensive aromatic oil from pure nard<n id="2" /> and anointed the feet of Jesus. She<n id="3" /> then wiped his feet dry with her hair. (Now the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfumed oil.)<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Now my soul is greatly distressed. And what should I say? &#8216;Father, deliver me<n id="1" /> from this hour&#8217;?<n id="2" /> No, but for this very reason I have come to this hour.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">Then some of his disciples said to one another, &#8220;What is the meaning of what he is saying,<n id="1" /> &#8216;In a little while you<n id="2" /> will not see me; again after a little while, you<n id="3" /> will see me,&#8217; and, &#8216;because I am going to the Father&#8217;?&#8221;<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;I have revealed<n id="1" /> your name to the men<n id="2" /> you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you,<n id="3" /> and you gave them to me, and they have obeyed<n id="4" /> your word.

The girl<n id="1" /> who was the doorkeeper said to Peter, &#8220;You&#8217;re not one of this man&#8217;s disciples too, are you?&#8221;<n id="2" /> He replied,<n id="3" /> &#8220;I am not.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Meanwhile Simon Peter was standing in the courtyard<n id="1" /> warming himself. They said to him, &#8220;You aren&#8217;t one of his disciples too, are you?&#8221;<n id="2" /> Peter<n id="3" /> denied it: &#8220;I am not!&#8221;

One of the high priest&#8217;s slaves,<n id="1" /> a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off,<n id="2" /> said, &#8220;Did I not see you in the orchard<n id="3" /> with him?&#8221;<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">From this point on, Pilate tried<n id="1" /> to release him. But the Jewish leaders<n id="2" /> shouted out,<n id="3" /> &#8220;If you release this man,<n id="4" /> you are no friend of Caesar!<n id="5" /> Everyone who claims to be a king<n id="6" /> opposes Caesar!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Now when the soldiers crucified<n id="1" /> Jesus, they took his clothes and made four shares, one for each soldier,<n id="2" /> and the tunic<n id="3" /> remained. (Now the tunic<n id="4" /> was seamless, woven from top to bottom as a single piece.)<n id="5" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now very early on the first day of the week,<n id="1" /> while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene<n id="2" /> came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been moved away from the entrance.<n id="3" />

So she went running<n id="1" /> to Simon Peter and the other disciple whom Jesus loved and told them, &#8220;They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don&#8217;t know where they have put him!&#8221;

Simon Peter, Thomas<n id="1" /> (called Didymus),<n id="2" /> Nathanael<n id="3" /> (who was from Cana<n id="4" /> in Galilee), the sons<n id="5" /> of Zebedee,<n id="6" /> and two other disciples<n id="7" /> of his were together.
