Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Where is your faith?&#8221;<n id="2" /> But they were afraid and amazed,<n id="3" /> saying to one another, &#8220;Who then is this? He commands even the winds and the water,<n id="4" /> and they obey him!&#8221;p>

As<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> stepped ashore,<n id="3" /> a certain man from the town<n id="4" /> met him who was possessed by demons.<n id="5" /> For a long time this man<n id="6" /> had worn no clothes and had not lived in a house, but among<n id="7" /> the tombs.

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven he gave thanks<n id="2" /> and broke them. He gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;But woe to you Pharisees!<n id="1" /> You give a tenth<n id="2" /> of your mint,<n id="3" /> rue,<n id="4" /> and every herb, yet you neglect justice<n id="5" /> and love for God! But you should have done these things without neglecting the others.<n id="6" />

So then<n id="1" /> whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered<n id="2" /> in private rooms<n id="3" /> will be proclaimed from the housetops.<n id="4" />p>

Sell your possessions<n id="1" /> and give to the poor.<n id="2" /> Provide yourselves purses that do not wear out &#8211; a treasure in heaven<n id="3" /> that never decreases,<n id="4" /> where no thief approaches and no moth<n id="5" /> destroys.

It is like a mustard seed<n id="1" /> that a man took and sowed<n id="2" /> in his garden. It<n id="3" /> grew and became a tree,<n id="4" /> and the wild birds<n id="5" /> nested in its branches.&#8221;<n id="6" />p>

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, &#8220;One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have<n id="1" /> and give the money<n id="2" /> to the poor,<n id="3" /> and you will have treasure<n id="4" /> in heaven. Then<n id="5" /> come, follow me.&#8221;

But Zacchaeus stopped and said to the Lord, &#8220;Look, Lord, half of my possessions I now give<n id="1" /> to the poor, and if<n id="2" /> I have cheated anyone of anything, I am paying back four times as much!&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now one<n id="1" /> day, as Jesus<n id="2" /> was teaching the people in the temple courts<n id="3" /> and proclaiming<n id="4" /> the gospel, the chief priests and the experts in the law<n id="5" /> with the elders came up<n id="6" />

&#8220;Beware<n id="1" /> of the experts in the law.<n id="2" /> They<n id="3" /> like walking around in long robes, and they love elaborate greetings<n id="4" /> in the marketplaces and the best seats<n id="5" /> in the synagogues<n id="6" /> and the places of honor at banquets.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me<n id="2" /> in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms<n id="3" /> must be fulfilled.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now while Jesus<n id="1" /> was in Jerusalem<n id="2" /> at the feast of the Passover, many people believed in his name because they saw the miraculous signs he was doing.<n id="3" />

There was<n id="1" /> a lot of grumbling<n id="2" /> about him among the crowds.<n id="3" /> Some were saying, &#8220;He is a good man,&#8221; but others, &#8220;He deceives the common people.&#8221;<n id="4" />

But if I do them, even if you do not believe me, believe the deeds,<n id="1" /> so that you may come to know<n id="2" /> and understand that I am in the Father and the Father is in me.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Thus Jesus no longer went<n id="1" /> around publicly<n id="2" /> among the Judeans,<n id="3" /> but went away from there to the region near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim,<n id="4" /> and stayed there with his disciples.

<p class="otpoetry">&#8220;<b><i>He has blinded their eyesi>b>p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>and hardened their heart,i>b><n id="1" />p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>so that they would not see with their eyesi>b>p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>and understand with their heart,i>b><n id="2" />p> <p class="otpoetry"><b><i>and turn to me,i>b><n id="3" /> <i><b>and I would heal themb>.i>&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

Some thought that, because Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him to buy whatever they needed for the feast,<n id="1" /> or to give something to the poor.)<n id="2" />

Children, I am still with you for a little while. You will look for me,<n id="1" /> and just as I said to the Jewish religious leaders,<n id="2" /> &#8216;Where I am going you cannot come,&#8217;<n id="3" /> now I tell you the same.<n id="4" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;I have revealed<n id="1" /> your name to the men<n id="2" /> you gave me out of the world. They belonged to you,<n id="3" /> and you gave them to me, and they have obeyed<n id="4" /> your word.
