Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="2" /> you are looking for me not because you saw miraculous signs, but because you ate all the loaves of bread you wanted.<n id="3" />

Do not work for the food that disappears,<n id="1" /> but for the food that remains to eternal life &#8211; the food<n id="2" /> which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has put his seal of approval on him.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

Jesus said to them, &#8220;I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,<n id="2" /> you have no life<n id="3" /> in yourselves.

The Spirit is the one who gives life; human nature is of no help!<n id="1" /> The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.<n id="2" />

Yet<n id="1" /> you do not know him, but I know him. If I were to say that I do not know him,<n id="2" /> I would be a liar like you. But I do know him, and I obey<n id="3" /> his teaching.<n id="4" />

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I told you and you do not believe. The deeds<n id="2" /> I do in my Father&#8217;s name testify about me.

I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> unless a kernel of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains by itself alone.<n id="2" /> But if it dies, it produces<n id="3" /> much grain.<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">So when Jesus<n id="1" /> had washed their feet and put his outer clothing back on, he took his place at the table<n id="2" /> again and said to them, &#8220;Do you understand<n id="3" /> what I have done for you?

Children, I am still with you for a little while. You will look for me,<n id="1" /> and just as I said to the Jewish religious leaders,<n id="2" /> &#8216;Where I am going you cannot come,&#8217;<n id="3" /> now I tell you the same.<n id="4" />p>

I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> the person who believes in me will perform<n id="2" /> the miraculous deeds<n id="3" /> that I am doing,<n id="4" /> and will perform<n id="5" /> greater deeds<n id="6" /> than these, because I am going to the Father.

But the Advocate,<n id="1" /> the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you<n id="2" /> everything,<n id="3" /> and will cause you to remember everything<n id="4" /> I said to you.p>

You heard me say to you,<n id="1" /> &#8216;I am going away and I am coming back to you.&#8217; If you loved me, you would be glad<n id="2" /> that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.<n id="3" />

Remain<n id="1" /> in me, and I will remain in you.<n id="2" /> Just as the branch cannot bear fruit by itself,<n id="3" /> unless it remains<n id="4" /> in<n id="5" /> the vine, so neither can you unless you remain<n id="6" /> in me.p>

I no longer call you slaves,<n id="1" /> because the slave does not understand<n id="2" /> what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything<n id="3" /> I heard<n id="4" /> from my Father.

Remember what<n id="1" /> I told you, &#8216;A slave<n id="2" /> is not greater than his master.&#8217;<n id="3" /> If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they obeyed<n id="4" /> my word, they will obey<n id="5" /> yours too.

When the Advocate<n id="1" /> comes, whom I will send you from the Father &#8211; the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father &#8211; he<n id="2" /> will testify about me,

But when he,<n id="1" /> the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide<n id="2" /> you into all truth.<n id="3" /> For he will not speak on his own authority,<n id="4" /> but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell you<n id="5" /> what is to come.<n id="6" />

I tell you the solemn truth,<n id="1" /> you will weep<n id="2" /> and wail,<n id="3" /> but the world will rejoice; you will be sad,<n id="4" /> but your sadness will turn into<n id="5" /> joy.

<p class="bodytext">Eight days later the disciples were again together in the house,<n id="1" /> and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked,<n id="2" /> Jesus came and stood among them and said, &#8220;Peace be with you!&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">But Peter stood up<n id="1" /> with the eleven, raised his voice, and addressed them: &#8220;You men of Judea<n id="2" /> and all you who live in Jerusalem,<n id="3" /> know this<n id="4" /> and listen carefully to what I say.
