But if we say, ‘From people,’ all the people will stone us, because they are convinced that John was a prophet.”

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he began to tell the people this parable: &#8220;A man<n id="2" /> planted a vineyard,<n id="3" /> leased it to tenant farmers,<n id="4" /> and went on a journey for a long time.

When harvest time came, he sent a slave<n id="1" /> to the tenants so that they would give<n id="2" /> him his portion of the crop.<n id="3" /> However, the tenants beat his slave<n id="4" /> and sent him away empty-handed.

Then<n id="1" /> the owner of the vineyard said, &#8216;What should I do? I will send my one dear son;<n id="2" /> perhaps they will respect him.&#8217;

He will come and destroy<n id="1" /> those tenants and give the vineyard to others.&#8221;<n id="2" /> When the people<n id="3" /> heard this, they said, &#8220;May this never happen!&#8221;<n id="4" />

But those who are regarded as worthy to share in<n id="1" /> that age and in the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage.<n id="2" />

But even Moses revealed that the dead are raised<n id="1" /> in the passage about the bush,<n id="2" /> where he calls the Lord <b><i>the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacobi>b>.<n id="3" />

&#8220;As for these things that you are gazing at, the days will come when not one stone will be left on another.<n id="1" /> All will be torn down!&#8221;<n id="2" />

For I will give you the words<n id="1" /> along with the wisdom<n id="2" /> that none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.

Then those who are in Judea must flee<n id="1" /> to the mountains. Those<n id="2" /> who are inside the city must depart. Those<n id="3" /> who are out in the country must not enter it,

Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing their babies in those days! For there will be great distress<n id="1" /> on the earth and wrath against this people.

And in the same way he took<n id="1" /> the cup after they had eaten,<n id="2" /> saying, &#8220;This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant<n id="3" /> in my blood.p>

that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit<n id="1" /> on thrones judging<n id="2" /> the twelve tribes of Israel.p>

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to them, &#8220;When I sent you out with no money bag,<n id="3" /> or traveler&#8217;s bag,<n id="4" /> or sandals, you didn&#8217;t lack<n id="5" /> anything, did you?&#8221; They replied,<n id="6" /> &#8220;Nothing.&#8221;

Then<n id="1" /> Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard,<n id="2" /> and the elders who had come out to get him, &#8220;Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw?<n id="3" />

So<n id="1" /> they all said, &#8220;Are you the Son of God,<n id="2" /> then?&#8221; He answered<n id="3" /> them, &#8220;You say<n id="4" /> that I am.&#8221;

So<n id="1" /> Pilate asked Jesus,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Are you the king<n id="3" /> of the Jews?&#8221; He replied, &#8220;You say so.&#8221;<n id="4" />

But they persisted<n id="1" /> in saying, &#8220;He incites<n id="2" /> the people by teaching throughout all Judea. It started in Galilee and ended up here!&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

Even Herod with his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then,<n id="1" /> dressing him in elegant clothes,<n id="2" /> Herod<n id="3" /> sent him back to Pilate.

That very day Herod and Pilate became friends with each other,<n id="1" /> for prior to this they had been enemies.<n id="2" />p>
