When the slave girl saw him, she began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.”

how he entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest ¹  and ate the sacred bread, ²  which is against the law ³  for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to his companions?” ⁴ 

But ¹  these are the ones sown on good soil: They hear the word and receive it and bear fruit, one thirty times as much, one sixty, and one a hundred.”

And they began making fun of him. ¹  But he put them all outside ²  and he took the child’s father and mother and his own companions ³  and went into the room where the child was. ⁴ 

There is nothing outside of a person that can defile him by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles him.”

The disciples were astonished at these words. But again Jesus said to them, ¹  “Children, how hard it is ²  to enter the kingdom of God!

But the days are coming when the bridegroom will be taken from them, ¹  and at that time ²  they will fast.

These are the ones sown on rocky ground: As soon as they hear the word, they receive it with joy.

But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

But some who were present indignantly said to one another, “Why this waste of expensive ¹  ointment?

He told him, ¹  “See that you do not say anything to anyone, ²  but go, show yourself to a priest, and bring the offering that Moses commanded ³  for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” ⁴ 

But he denied it again. A short time later the bystanders again said to Peter, “You must be ¹  one of them, because you are also a Galilean.”

There were about four thousand ¹  who ate. ²  Then he dismissed them. ³ 

People ¹  from the whole Judean countryside and all of Jerusalem ²  were going out to him, and he was baptizing them ³  in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins.

These are the ones on the path where the word is sown: Whenever they hear, immediately Satan ¹  comes and snatches the word ²  that was sown in them.

Now ¹  the herdsmen ran off and spread the news in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.

Although it grieved the king deeply, ¹  he did not want to reject her request because of his oath and his guests.

People were completely astounded and said, “He has done everything well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

For whoever wants to save his life ¹  will lose it, ²  but whoever loses his life for my sake and for the gospel will save it.

When his daughter Herodias ¹  came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.”
