Since I was confident that you would obey, I wrote to you, because I knew that you would do even more than ¹  what I am asking you to do.

So that ¹  your confidence may be in the Lord, I am making them known to you today ²  – even you.

So, although I have quite a lot of confidence in Christ and could command you to do what is proper,

“Brothers, ¹  I can speak confidently ²  to you about our forefather ³  David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

“‘But just look at you! ¹  You are putting your confidence in a false belief ²  that will not deliver you. ³ 

They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not understand what they are saying or the things they insist on so confidently. ¹ 

The priest said to them, “Go with confidence. ¹  The Lord will be with you on your mission.” ² 

¹ I say to the proud, “Do not be proud,” and to the wicked, “Do not be so confident of victory! ² 

The wicked person flees when there is no one pursuing, ¹  but the righteous person is as confident ²  as a lion.

You, however, must continue ¹  in the things you have learned and are confident about. You know ²  who taught you ³ 

And so, ¹  since we have been justified by his grace, we become heirs with the confident expectation of eternal life.” ² 

For if any of the Macedonians should come with me and find that you are not ready to give, we would be humiliated ¹  (not to mention you) by this confidence we had in you. ² 

And we are sending ¹  with them our brother whom we have tested many times and found eager in many matters, but who now is much more eager than ever because of the great confidence he has in you.

“This is what King Sennacherib of Assyria says: ‘Why are you so confident that you remain in Jerusalem while it is under siege? ¹ 

Then they will place their confidence in God. They will not forget the works of God, and they will obey ¹  his commands.

But Christ ¹  is faithful as a son over God’s ²  house. We are of his house, ³  if in fact we hold firmly ⁴  to our confidence and the hope we take pride in. ⁵ 

“Look, here is the man who would not make ¹  God his protector! He trusted in his great wealth and was confident about his plans to destroy others.” ² 

Again he says, ¹  “I will be confident in him,” and again, “Here I am, ²  with ³  the children God has given me.” ⁴ 

I have great confidence in you; I take great pride ¹  on your behalf. I am filled with encouragement; ²  I am overflowing with joy in the midst of ³  all our suffering.

It will never again be Israel’s source of confidence, but a reminder of how they sinned by turning to Egypt for help. ¹  Then they will know that I am the sovereign Lord.’”
