For he was looking forward to the city with firm foundations, ¹  whose architect and builder is God.

He regarded abuse suffered for Christ ¹  to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for his eyes were fixed on ²  the reward.

By faith he left Egypt without fearing the king’s anger, for he persevered as though he could see the one who is invisible.

Endure your suffering ¹  as discipline; ²  God is treating you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline?

Marriage must be honored among all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, for God will judge sexually immoral people and adulterers.

And do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, ¹  for God is pleased with such sacrifices.

Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to conduct ourselves rightly in every respect.

Now I urge you, brothers and sisters, ¹  bear with my message of exhortation, for in fact I have written to you briefly.

For indeed he who makes holy and those being made holy all have the same origin, ¹  and so ²  he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, ³ 

For he has come to deserve greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves greater honor than the house itself!

For we had good news proclaimed to us just as they did. But the message they heard did them no good, since they did not join in ¹  with those who heard it in faith. ² 

For he has spoken somewhere about the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works,” ¹ 

For the one who enters God’s ¹  rest has also rested from his works, just as God did from his own works.

For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin.

For every high priest is taken from among the people ¹  and appointed ²  to represent them before God, ³  to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.

For it is indeed fitting for us to have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.

For the law appoints as high priests men subject to weakness, ¹  but the word of solemn affirmation that came after the law appoints a son made perfect forever.

For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. So this one too had to have something to offer.

For a tent was prepared, the outer one, ¹  which contained ²  the lampstand, the table, and the presentation of the loaves; this ³  is called the holy place.

For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow sprinkled on those who are defiled consecrated them and provided ritual purity, ¹
