and he himself is the atoning sacrifice<n id="1" /> for our sins, and not only for our sins but also for the whole world.<n id="2" />p>

But the centurion replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Instead, just say the word and my servant will be healed.

And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a disciple, I tell you the truth,<n id="1" /> he will never lose his reward.&#8221;p>

For this reason the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> were trying even harder to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was also calling God his own Father, thus making himself equal with God.p>

<p class="bodytext">Now a large crowd of Judeans<n id="1" /> learned<n id="2" /> that Jesus<n id="3" /> was there, and so they came not only because of him<n id="4" /> but also to see Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now those who had been scattered because of the persecution that took place over Stephen<n id="1" /> went as far as<n id="2" /> Phoenicia,<n id="3" /> Cyprus,<n id="4" /> and Antioch,<n id="5" /> speaking the message<n id="6" /> to no one but Jews.

He had been instructed in<n id="1" /> the way of the Lord, and with great enthusiasm<n id="2" /> he spoke and taught accurately the facts<n id="3" /> about Jesus, although he knew<n id="4" /> only the baptism of John.

And you see and hear that this Paul has persuaded<n id="1" /> and turned away<n id="2" /> a large crowd,<n id="3" /> not only in Ephesus<n id="4" /> but in practically all of the province of Asia,<n id="5" /> by saying<n id="6" /> that gods made by hands are not gods at all.<n id="7" />

Then Paul replied, &#8220;What are you doing, weeping and breaking<n id="1" /> my heart? For I am ready not only to be tied up,<n id="2" /> but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.&#8221;

Paul replied, &#8220;I pray to God that whether in a short or a long time<n id="1" /> not only you but also all those who are listening to me today could become such as I am, except for these chains.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

&#8220;Men, I can see the voyage is going to end<n id="1" /> in disaster<n id="2" /> and great loss not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.&#8221;<n id="3" />

Although they fully know<n id="1" /> God&#8217;s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die,<n id="2" /> they not only do them but also approve of those who practice them.<n id="3" />p>

For this reason it is by faith so that it may be by grace,<n id="1" /> with the result that the promise may be certain to all the descendants &#8211; not only to those who are under the law, but also to those who have the faith of Abraham,<n id="2" /> who is the father of us all

Not only this, but we ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit,<n id="1" /> groan inwardly as we eagerly await our adoption,<n id="2" /> the redemption of our bodies.<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">A wife is bound as long as her husband is living. But if her husband dies,<n id="1" /> she is free to marry anyone she wishes (only someone in the Lord).

We were encouraged<n id="1" /> not only by his arrival, but also by the encouragement<n id="2" /> you gave<n id="3" /> him, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning,<n id="4" /> your deep concern<n id="5" /> for me, so that I rejoiced more than ever.

In addition,<n id="1" /> this brother<n id="2" /> has also been chosen by the churches as our traveling companion as we administer this generous gift<n id="3" /> to the glory of the Lord himself and to show our readiness to help.<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Only conduct yourselves<n id="1" /> in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ so that &#8211; whether I come and see you or whether I remain absent &#8211; I should hear that<n id="2" /> you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind, by contending side by side for the faith of the gospel,<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">So then, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, continue working out your salvation with awe and reverence,<n id="1" />

in that<n id="1" /> our gospel did not come to you merely in words,<n id="2" /> but in power and in the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction (surely you recall the character we displayed when we came among you to help you).<n id="3" />p>
