They were even more astonished and said<n id="1" /> to one another, &#8220;Then<n id="2" /> who can be saved?&#8221;<n id="3" />

He went away again and prayed the same thing.

When Judas<n id="1" /> arrived, he went up to Jesus<n id="2" /> immediately and said, &#8220;Rabbi!&#8221; and kissed<n id="3" /> him.

Then they took hold of him<n id="1" /> and arrested him.

A young man was following him, wearing only a linen cloth. They tried to arrest him,

(For he knew that the chief priests had handed him over because of envy.)<n id="1" />

They put a purple cloak<n id="1" /> on him and after braiding<n id="2" /> a crown of thorns,<n id="3" /> they put it on him.

They began to salute him: &#8220;Hail, king of the Jews!&#8221;<n id="1" />

They brought Jesus<n id="1" /> to a place called Golgotha<n id="2" /> (which is translated, &#8220;Place of the Skull&#8221;).<n id="3" />

But as the man<n id="1" /> went out he began to announce it publicly and spread the story widely, so that Jesus<n id="2" /> was no longer able to enter any town openly but stayed outside in remote places. Still<n id="3" /> they kept coming<n id="4" /> to him from everywhere.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Again he began to teach by the lake. Such a large crowd gathered around him that he got into a boat on the lake and sat there while<n id="1" /> the whole crowd was on the shore by the lake.

because Herod stood in awe of<n id="1" /> John and protected him, since he knew that John<n id="2" /> was a righteous and holy man. When Herod<n id="3" /> heard him, he was thoroughly baffled,<n id="4" /> and yet<n id="5" /> he liked to listen to John.<n id="6" />p>

There is nothing outside of a person that can defile him by going into him. Rather, it is what comes out of a person that defiles him.&#8221;p>

He took the blind man by the hand and brought him outside of the village. Then<n id="1" /> he spit on his eyes, placed his hands on his eyes<n id="2" /> and asked, &#8220;Do you see anything?&#8221;

Whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams at the mouth, grinds his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to cast it out, but<n id="1" /> they were not able to do so.&#8221;<n id="2" />

&#8220;Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and experts in the law.<n id="1" /> They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles.

The chief priests and the experts in the law<n id="1" /> heard it and they considered how they could assassinate<n id="2" /> him, for they feared him, because the whole crowd was amazed by his teaching.

When Jesus saw that he had answered thoughtfully, he said to him, &#8220;You are not far from the kingdom of God.&#8221; Then no one dared any longer to question him.p>

Then<n id="1" /> some began to spit on him, and to blindfold him, and to strike him with their fists, saying, &#8220;Prophesy!&#8221; The guards also took him and beat<n id="2" /> him.p>

After Joseph<n id="1" /> bought a linen cloth<n id="2" /> and took down the body, he wrapped it in the linen and placed it in a tomb cut out of the rock.<n id="3" /> Then<n id="4" /> he rolled a stone across the entrance<n id="5" /> of the tomb.
