She had lived as a widow since then for eighty-four years.<n id="1" /> She never left the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day.<n id="2" />

But<n id="1" /> when the feast was over,<n id="2" /> as they were returning home,<n id="3" /> the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His<n id="4" /> parents<n id="5" /> did not know it,

But<n id="1" /> he replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Why were you looking for me?<n id="3" /> Didn&#8217;t you know that I must be in my Father&#8217;s house?&#8221;<n id="4" />

where for forty days he endured temptations<n id="1" /> from the devil. He<n id="2" /> ate nothing<n id="3" /> during those days, and when they were completed,<n id="4" /> he was famished.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now Jesus&#8217;<n id="1" /> mother and his brothers<n id="2" /> came to him, but<n id="3" /> they could not get near him because of the crowd.

<t /><p class="bodytext">John answered,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop<n id="2" /> him because he is not a disciple<n id="3" /> along with us.&#8221;

Woe to you experts in religious law! You have taken away<n id="1" /> the key to knowledge! You did not go in yourselves, and you hindered<n id="2" /> those who were going in.&#8221;p>

And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the person who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit<n id="1" /> will not be forgiven.<n id="2" />

You hypocrites!<n id="1" /> You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but how can you not know how<n id="2" /> to interpret the present time?p>

Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Which of you, if you have a son<n id="2" /> or an ox that has fallen into a well on a Sabbath day, will not immediately pull him out?&#8221;

In the same way therefore not one of you can be my disciple if he does not renounce all his own possessions.<n id="1" />p>

He<n id="1" /> replied to him, &#8216;If they do not respond to<n id="2" /> Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he said to the disciples, &#8220;The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days<n id="2" /> of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.

For<n id="1" /> a while he refused, but later on<n id="2" /> he said to himself, &#8216;Though I neither fear God nor have regard for people,<n id="3" />

But<n id="1" /> the twelve<n id="2" /> understood none of these things. This<n id="3" /> saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp<n id="4" /> what Jesus meant.<n id="5" />p>

He<n id="1" /> was trying to get a look at Jesus,<n id="2" /> but being a short man he could not see over the crowd.<n id="3" />

Why then didn&#8217;t you put<n id="1" /> my money in the bank,<n id="2" /> so that when I returned I could have collected it with interest?&#8217;

So<n id="1" /> they discussed it with one another, saying, &#8220;If we say, &#8216;From heaven,&#8217; he will say, &#8216;Why did you not believe him?&#8217;

&#8220;As for these things that you are gazing at, the days will come when not one stone will be left on another.<n id="1" /> All will be torn down!&#8221;<n id="2" />

And when you hear of wars and rebellions,<n id="1" /> do not be afraid.<n id="2" /> For these things must happen first, but the end will not come at once.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>
