The king&#8217;s servants have even come to congratulate<n id="1" /> our master<n id="2" /> King David, saying, &#8216;May your God<n id="3" /> make Solomon more famous than you and make him an even greater king than you!&#8217;<n id="4" /> Then the king leaned<n id="5" /> on the bed

Now, as certainly as the <sc>Lordsc> lives (he who made me secure, allowed me to sit on my father David&#8217;s throne, and established a dynasty<n id="1" /> for me as he promised), Adonijah will be executed today!&#8221;

Then the king said to Shimei, &#8220;You are well aware of the way you mistreated my father David.<n id="1" /> The <sc>Lordsc> will punish you for what you did.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Solomon made an alliance by marriage with Pharaoh, king of Egypt; he married Pharaoh&#8217;s daughter. He brought her to the City of David<n id="1" /> until he could finish building his residence and the temple of the <sc>Lordsc> and the wall around Jerusalem.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext"><v id="(5:15)" /><n id="1" /> King Hiram of Tyre<n id="2" /> sent messengers<n id="3" /> to Solomon when he heard that he had been anointed king in his father&#8217;s place. (Hiram had always been an ally of David.)

&#8220;You know that my father David was unable to build a temple to honor the <sc>Lordsc><n id="1" /> his God, for he was busy fighting battles on all fronts while the <sc>Lordsc> subdued his enemies.<n id="2" />

So I have decided<n id="1" /> to build a temple to honor the <sc>Lordsc><n id="2" /> my God, as the <sc>Lordsc> instructed my father David, &#8216;Your son, whom I will put on your throne in your place, is the one who will build a temple to honor me.&#8217;<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">When Hiram heard Solomon&#8217;s message, he was very happy. He said, &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> is worthy of praise today because he<n id="1" /> has given David a wise son to rule over this great nation.&#8221;

&#8220;As for this temple you are building, if you follow<n id="1" /> my rules, observe<n id="2" /> my regulations, and obey all my commandments,<n id="3" /> I will fulfill through you the promise I made to your father David.<n id="4" />

When King Solomon finished constructing the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple, he<n id="1" /> put the holy items that belonged to his father David (the silver, gold, and other articles) in the treasuries of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple.p>

He told David,<n id="1" /> &#8216;Since the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from all the tribes of Israel to build a temple in which to live.<n id="2" /> But I have chosen David to lead my people Israel.&#8217;

The <sc>Lordsc> has kept the promise he made.<n id="1" /> I have taken my father David&#8217;s place and have occupied the throne of Israel, as the <sc>Lordsc> promised. I have built this temple for the honor<n id="2" /> of the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel
