This man Elkanah went up with all his family to make the yearly sacrifice to the Lord and to keep his vow,

Receiving sacrifices and offerings are not your primary concern. ¹  You make that quite clear to me! ²  You do not ask for burnt sacrifices and sin offerings.

Certainly ¹  you do not want a sacrifice, or else I would offer it; ²  you do not desire a burnt sacrifice. ³ 

The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit ¹  – O God, a humble and repentant heart ²  you will not reject. ³ 

Then you will accept ¹  the proper sacrifices, burnt sacrifices and whole offerings; then bulls will be sacrificed ²  on your altar. ³ 

Better is a dry crust of bread ¹  where there is quietness ²  than a house full of feasting with strife. ³ 

On every high, elevated hill you prepare your bed; you go up there to offer sacrifices.

The Lord said to the people of Judah, ¹  “The Lord God of Israel who rules over all ²  says: ‘You might as well go ahead and add the meat of your burnt offerings to that of the other sacrifices and eat it, too! ³ 

You will eat fat until you are full, and drink blood until you are drunk, ¹  at my slaughter ²  which I have made for you.

You did not bring me ¹  sacrifices and grain offerings during the forty years you spent in the wilderness, family ²  of Israel.

The men feared the Lord ¹  greatly, ²  and earnestly vowed ³  to offer lavish sacrifices ⁴  to the Lord. ⁵ 

This is so that ¹  the Israelites will bring their sacrifices that they are sacrificing in the open field ²  to the Lord at the entrance of the Meeting Tent to the priest and sacrifice them there as peace offering sacrifices to the Lord.

The next day they made sacrifices and offered burnt sacrifices to the Lord (1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, 1,000 lambs), along with their accompanying drink offerings and many other sacrifices for all Israel.

Hezekiah said, “Now you have consecrated yourselves ¹  to the Lord. Come and bring sacrifices and thank offerings ²  to the Lord’s temple.” So the assembly brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and whoever desired to do so ³  brought burnt sacrifices.

So Israel began his journey, taking with him all that he had. ¹  When he came to Beer Sheba ²  he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

Be careful ¹  not to make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, for when ²  they prostitute themselves ³  to their gods and sacrifice to their gods, and someone invites you, ⁴  you will eat from his sacrifice;

“‘Now if his offering is a peace offering sacrifice, ¹  if he presents an offering from the herd, he must present before the Lord a flawless male or a female. ² 

Then the one presenting the offering ¹  must present a gift to the Lord from the peace offering sacrifice: He must remove the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that surrounds the entrails, ² 

Then the priest ¹  must offer all of its fat up in smoke on the altar like the fat of the peace offering sacrifice. So the priest will make atonement ²  on his behalf for ³  his sin and he will be forgiven. ⁴ 

The person who eats meat from the peace offering sacrifice which belongs to the Lord while his uncleanness persists ¹  will be cut off from his people. ²
