When his son Isaac was eight days old,<n id="1" /> Abraham circumcised him just as God had commanded him to do.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Sarah said, &#8220;God has made me laugh.<n id="1" /> Everyone who hears about this<n id="2" /> will laugh<n id="3" /> with me.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">God was with the boy as he grew. He lived in the wilderness and became an archer.

&#8220;God will provide<n id="1" /> for himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son,&#8221; Abraham replied. The two of them continued on together.p>

Then Rachel said, &#8220;I have fought a desperate struggle with my sister, but I have won.&#8221;<n id="1" /> So she named him Naphtali.<n id="2" />p>

God paid attention<n id="1" /> to Leah; she became pregnant<n id="2" /> and gave Jacob a son for the fifth time.<n id="3" />

Then Leah said, &#8220;God has granted me a reward<n id="1" /> because I gave my servant to my husband as a wife.&#8221;<n id="2" /> So she named him Issachar.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">God appeared to Jacob again after he returned from Paddan Aram and blessed him.

Jacob named the place<n id="1" /> where God spoke with him Bethel.<n id="2" />p>

Joseph replied to Pharaoh, &#8220;It is not within my power,<n id="1" /> but God will speak concerning<n id="2" /> the welfare of Pharaoh.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

So Pharaoh asked his officials, &#8220;Can we find a man like Joseph,<n id="1" /> one in whom the Spirit of God is present?&#8221;<n id="2" />

He named the second child Ephraim,<n id="1" /> saying,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Certainly<n id="3" /> God has made me fruitful in the land of my suffering.&#8221;p>

God sent me<n id="1" /> ahead of you to preserve you<n id="2" /> on the earth and to save your lives<n id="3" /> by a great deliverance.

God spoke to Israel in a vision during the night<n id="1" /> and said, &#8220;Jacob, Jacob!&#8221; He replied, &#8220;Here I am!&#8221;

But Joseph answered them, &#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid. Am<n id="1" /> I in the place of God?

God created the great sea creatures<n id="1" /> and every living and moving thing with which the water swarmed, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. God saw that it was good.

<p class="bodytext">God blessed<n id="1" /> them and said<n id="2" /> to them, &#8220;Be fruitful and multiply! Fill the earth and subdue it!<n id="3" /> Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that moves on the ground.&#8221;<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> the serpent<n id="2" /> was more shrewd<n id="3" />p> <p class="bodytext">than any of the wild animals<n id="4" /> that the <sc>Lordsc> God had made. He said to the woman, &#8220;Is it really true that<n id="5" /> God<n id="6" /> said, &#8216;You must not eat from any tree of the orchard&#8217;?&#8221;<n id="7" />

<p class="bodytext">But God remembered<n id="1" /> Noah and all the wild animals and domestic animals that were with him in the ark. God caused a wind to blow over<n id="2" /> the earth and the waters receded.

<p class="bodytext">So when God destroyed<n id="1" /> the cities of the region,<n id="2" /> God honored<n id="3" /> Abraham&#8217;s request. He removed Lot<n id="4" /> from the midst of the destruction when he destroyed<n id="5" /> the cities Lot had lived in.p>
