The king of Israel went home to Samaria<n id="1" /> bitter and angry.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">There was no war between Syria and Israel for three years.<n id="1" />

In the third year King Jehoshaphat of Judah came down to visit<n id="1" /> the king of Israel.

Then Jehoshaphat added,<n id="1" /> &#8220;First seek an oracle from the <sc>Lordsc>.&#8221;<n id="2" />

The king of Israel summoned an official and said, &#8220;Quickly bring Micaiah son of Imlah.&#8221;p>

When the chariot commanders realized he was not the king of Israel, they turned away from him.

<t /><p class="bodytext">In the fourth year of King Ahab&#8217;s reign over Israel, Asa&#8217;s son Jehoshaphat became king over Judah.

<t /><p class="bodytext">In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites left Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon&#8217;s reign over Israel, during the month Ziv<n id="1" /> (the second month), he began building the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple.

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Then Solomon convened in Jerusalem<n id="2" /> Israel&#8217;s elders, all the leaders of the Israelite tribes and families, so they could witness the transferal of the ark of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s covenant from the city of David (that is, Zion).<n id="3" />

The <sc>Lordsc> has kept the promise he made.<n id="1" /> I have taken my father David&#8217;s place and have occupied the throne of Israel, as the <sc>Lordsc> promised. I have built this temple for the honor<n id="2" /> of the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel

Then I will allow your dynasty to rule over Israel permanently,<n id="1" /> just as I promised your father David, &#8216;You will not fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel.&#8217;<n id="2" />p>

then I will remove Israel from the land<n id="1" /> I have given them, I will abandon this temple I have consecrated with my presence,<n id="2" /> and Israel will be mocked and ridiculed<n id="3" /> among all the nations.

May the <sc>Lordsc> your God be praised because he favored<n id="1" /> you by placing you on the throne of Israel! Because of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s eternal love for Israel, he made you king so you could make just and right decisions.&#8221;<n id="2" />

When all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, they summoned him to the assembly and made him king over all Israel. No one except the tribe of Judah remained loyal to the Davidic dynasty.<n id="1" />p>

All Israel will mourn him and bury him. He is the only one in Jeroboam&#8217;s family<n id="1" /> who will receive a decent burial, for he is the only one in whom the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel found anything good.

The <sc>Lordsc> will attack Israel, making it like a reed that sways in the water.<n id="1" /> He will remove Israel from this good land he gave to their ancestors<n id="2" /> and scatter them beyond the Euphrates River,<n id="3" /> because they angered the <sc>Lordsc> by making Asherah poles.<n id="4" />

&#8220;I raised you up<n id="1" /> from the dust and made you ruler over my people Israel. Yet you followed in Jeroboam&#8217;s footsteps<n id="2" /> and encouraged my people Israel to sin; their sins have made me angry.<n id="3" />

This happened because of all the sins which Baasha and his son Elah committed and which they made Israel commit. They angered the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel with their worthless idols.<n id="1" />p>

While deployed there, the army received this report:<n id="1" /> &#8220;Zimri has conspired against the king and assassinated him.&#8221;<n id="2" /> So all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that very day in the camp.

<t /><p class="bodytext">In the thirty-eighth year of Asa&#8217;s reign over Judah, Omri&#8217;s son Ahab became king over Israel. Ahab son of Omri ruled over Israel for twenty-two years in Samaria.<n id="1" />
