King David said, “Summon Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, ¹  and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.” They came before the king,

Everyone ¹  in the world wanted to visit Solomon to see him display his God-given wisdom. ² 

“As for you, get up and go home. When you set foot in the city, the boy will die.

My servants will bring the timber down from Lebanon to the sea. I will send it by sea in raft-like bundles to the place you designate. ¹  There I will separate the logs ²  and you can carry them away. In exchange you will supply the food I need for my royal court.” ³ 

Ahab told Obadiah, “Go through the land to all the springs and valleys. Maybe we can find some grazing areas ¹  so we can keep the horses and mules alive and not have to kill ²  some of the animals.”

Then David passed away ¹  and was buried in the city of David. ² 

Solomon made an alliance by marriage with Pharaoh, king of Egypt; he married Pharaoh’s daughter. He brought her to the City of David ¹  until he could finish building his residence and the temple of the Lord and the wall around Jerusalem. ² 

The old prophet then said, ¹  “I too am a prophet like you. An angel told me with the Lord’s authority, ²  ‘Bring him back with you to your house so he can eat and drink.’” ³  But he was lying to him. ⁴ 

They came from nations about which the Lord had warned the Israelites, “You must not establish friendly relations with them! ¹  If you do, they will surely shift your allegiance to their gods.” ²  But Solomon was irresistibly attracted to them. ³ 

He arranged the wood, cut up the bull, and placed it on the wood.

King David was very old; ¹  even when they covered him with blankets, ²  he could not get warm.

He collaborated ¹  with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they supported ²  him. ³ 

In the same way he made doorposts of olive wood for the entrance to the main hall, only with four-sided pillars. ¹ 

then listen from heaven, forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them back to the land you gave to their ancestors.

Hadad, ¹  who was only a small boy at the time, escaped with some of his father’s Edomite servants and headed for Egypt. ² 

Abijah passed away ¹  and was buried ²  in the city of David. His son Asa replaced him as king.

Baasha passed away ¹  and was buried in Tirzah. His son Elah replaced him as king.

Omri passed away ¹  and was buried in Samaria. His son Ahab replaced him as king. ² 

“Leave here and travel eastward. Hide out in the Kerith Valley near the Jordan.
