But as for you, map out the land into seven regions and bring it to me. I will draw lots for you here before the Lord our God.

Joshua drew lots for them in Shiloh before the Lord and divided the land among the Israelites according to their allotted portions.

The Israelites sent Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest, to the land of Gilead to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh.

They went to the land of Gilead to the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and said to them:

in Shiloh in the land of Canaan and said, “The Lord told Moses to assign us cities in which to live along with the grazing areas for our cattle.”

Moses assigned land to the tribe of Reuben ¹  by its clans.

Moses assigned land to the tribe of Gad ¹  by its clans.

Moses assigned land to the half-tribe of Manasseh ¹  by its clans.

When Joshua was very old, ¹  the Lord told him, “You are very old, and a great deal of land remains to be conquered.

They said to Joshua, “It was carefully reported to your subjects ¹  how the Lord your God commanded Moses his servant to assign you the whole land and to destroy all who live in the land from before you. Because of you we were terrified ²  we would lose our lives, so we did this thing.

Pick three men from each tribe. I will send them out to walk through the land and make a map of it for me. ¹ 

“Remember what Moses the Lord’s servant commanded you. ¹  The Lord your God is giving you a place to settle and is handing this land over to you. ² 

The Lord drove out from before us all the nations, including the Amorites who lived in the land. So we too will worship ¹  the Lord, for he is our God!”

The tribe of Manasseh, Joseph’s firstborn son, was also allotted land. ¹  The descendants of Makir, Manasseh’s firstborn and the father of Gilead, received land, for they were warriors. ²  They were assigned Gilead and Bashan. ³ 

Simeon’s assigned land was taken from Judah’s allotted portion, for Judah’s territory was too large for them; so Simeon was assigned land within Judah. ¹ 

The men journeyed ¹  through the land and mapped it and its cities out into seven regions on a scroll. Then they came to Joshua at the camp in Shiloh.

including the hill country, the lowlands, ¹  the Arabah, the slopes, the wilderness, and the Negev – the land of ²  the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites:

The land allotted to the tribe of Gad by its clans included these cities and their towns. ¹ 

These are the land assignments made by Moses ¹  on the plains of Moab east of the Jordan River opposite Jericho. ² 

This was the land assigned to the tribe of Zebulun ¹  by its clans, including these cities and their towns.
