As<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> stepped ashore,<n id="3" /> a certain man from the town<n id="4" /> met him who was possessed by demons.<n id="5" /> For a long time this man<n id="6" /> had worn no clothes and had not lived in a house, but among<n id="7" /> the tombs.

When he saw<n id="1" /> Jesus, he cried out, fell<n id="2" /> down before him, and shouted with a loud voice, &#8220;Leave me alone,<n id="3" /> Jesus, Son of the Most High<n id="4" /> God! I beg you, do not torment<n id="5" /> me!&#8221;

Then<n id="1" /> all the people of the Gerasenes<n id="2" /> and the surrounding region<n id="3" /> asked Jesus<n id="4" /> to leave them alone,<n id="5" /> for they were seized with great fear.<n id="6" /> So<n id="7" /> he got into the boat and left.<n id="8" />

Then<n id="1" /> a man named Jairus, who was a ruler<n id="2" /> of the synagogue,<n id="3" /> came up. Falling<n id="4" /> at Jesus&#8217; feet, he pleaded<n id="5" /> with him to come to his house,

<t /><p class="bodytext">Once<n id="1" /> when Jesus<n id="2" /> was praying<n id="3" /> by himself, and his disciples were nearby, he asked them,<n id="4" /> &#8220;Who do the crowds say that I am?&#8221;<n id="5" />

But they did not understand this statement; its meaning<n id="1" /> had been concealed<n id="2" /> from them, so that they could not grasp it. Yet<n id="3" /> they were afraid to ask him about this statement.p>

The<n id="1" /> next day he took out two silver coins<n id="2" /> and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, &#8216;Take care of him, and whatever else you spend, I will repay you when I come back this way.&#8217;<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> was praying in a certain place. When<n id="3" /> he stopped, one of his disciples said to him, &#8220;Lord, teach us to pray, just as John<n id="4" /> taught<n id="5" /> his disciples.&#8221;

Then<n id="1" /> he will reply<n id="2" /> from inside, &#8216;Do not bother me. The door is already shut, and my children and I are in bed.<n id="3" /> I cannot get up and give you anything.&#8217;<n id="4" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">&#8220;When an unclean spirit<n id="1" /> goes out of a person,<n id="2" /> it passes through waterless places<n id="3" /> looking for rest but<n id="4" /> not finding any. Then<n id="5" /> it says, &#8216;I will return to the home I left.&#8217;<n id="6" />

Then it goes and brings seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there, so<n id="1" /> the last state of that person<n id="2" /> is worse than the first.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">As<n id="1" /> the crowds were increasing, Jesus<n id="2" /> began to say, &#8220;This generation is a wicked generation; it looks for a sign,<n id="3" /> but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.<n id="4" />

The people<n id="1" /> of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented when Jonah preached to them<n id="2" /> &#8211; and now,<n id="3" /> something greater than Jonah is here!p>

If<n id="1" /> then<n id="2" /> your whole body is full of light, with no part in the dark,<n id="3" /> it will be as full of light as when the light of a lamp shines on you.&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

But I will warn<n id="1" /> you whom you should fear: Fear the one who, after the killing,<n id="2" /> has authority to throw you<n id="3" /> into hell.<n id="4" /> Yes, I tell you, fear him!

Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Watch out and guard yourself from<n id="2" /> all types of greed,<n id="3" /> because one&#8217;s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to his<n id="3" /> disciples, &#8220;Therefore I tell you, do not worry<n id="4" /> about your<n id="5" /> life, what you will eat, or about your<n id="6" /> body, what you will wear.

Consider the ravens:<n id="1" /> They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds<n id="2" /> them. How much more valuable are you than the birds!

But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief<n id="1" /> was coming, he would not have let<n id="2" /> his house be broken into.

They will be divided,<n id="1" /> father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.&#8221;p>
