<p class="poetry">Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce,p> <p class="poetry">and their fury, for it was cruel.p> <p class="poetry">I will divide them in Jacob,p> <p class="poetry">and scatter them in Israel!<n id="1" />p>

<p class="poetry">But his bow will remain steady,p> <p class="poetry">and his hands<n id="1" /> will be skillful;p> <p class="poetry">because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob,p> <p class="poetry">because of<n id="2" /> the Shepherd, the Rock<n id="3" /> of Israel,p>

<p class="bodytext">So Joseph went up to bury his father; all Pharaoh&#8217;s officials went with him &#8211; the senior courtiers<n id="1" /> of his household, all the senior officials of the land of Egypt,

<p class="bodytext">God said, &#8220;Let there be lights<n id="1" /> in the expanse<n id="2" /> of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them be signs<n id="3" /> to indicate seasons and days and years,

Then God said, &#8220;I now<n id="1" /> give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the entire earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.<n id="2" />

And to all the animals of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to all the creatures that move on the ground &#8211; everything that has the breath of life in it &#8211; I give<n id="1" /> every green plant for food.&#8221; It was so.p>

<p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> no shrub of the field had yet grown on the earth, and no plant of the field<n id="2" /> had yet sprouted, for the <sc>Lordsc> God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground.<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the <sc>Lordsc> God moving about<n id="1" /> in the orchard at the breezy time<n id="2" /> of the day, and they hid<n id="3" /> from the <sc>Lordsc> God among the trees of the orchard.

And Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. The name of Abram&#8217;s wife was Sarai,<n id="1" /> and the name of Nahor&#8217;s wife was Milcah;<n id="2" /> she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milcah and Iscah.

<p class="bodytext">Then he moved from there to the hill country east of Bethel<n id="1" /> and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the <sc>Lordsc> and worshiped the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">After Abram<n id="1" /> returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, the king of Sodom went out to meet Abram<n id="2" /> in the Valley of Shaveh (known as the King&#8217;s Valley).<n id="3" />

Abraham<n id="1" /> looked up<n id="2" /> and saw<n id="3" /> three men standing across<n id="4" /> from him. When he saw them<n id="5" /> he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them and bowed low<n id="6" /> to the ground.<n id="7" />p>

Then the two visitors<n id="1" /> said to Lot, &#8220;Who else do you have here?<n id="2" /> Do you have<n id="3" /> any sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or other relatives in the city?<n id="4" /> Get them out of this<n id="5" /> place

But God said to Abraham, &#8220;Do not be upset<n id="1" /> about the boy or your slave wife. Do<n id="2" /> all that Sarah is telling<n id="3" /> you because through Isaac your descendants will be counted.<n id="4" />

&#8220;Do not harm the boy!&#8221;<n id="1" /> the angel said.<n id="2" /> &#8220;Do not do anything to him, for now I know<n id="3" /> that you fear<n id="4" /> God because you did not withhold your son, your only son, from me.&#8221;p>

&#8220;No, my lord! Hear me out. I sell<n id="1" /> you both the field and the cave that is in it.<n id="2" /> In the presence of my people<n id="3" /> I sell it to you. Bury your dead.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">The servant asked him, &#8220;What if the woman is not willing to come back with me<n id="1" /> to this land? Must I then<n id="2" /> take your son back to the land from which you came?&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Then the servant took ten of his master&#8217;s camels and departed with all kinds of gifts from his master at his disposal.<n id="1" /> He journeyed<n id="2" /> to the region of Aram Naharaim<n id="3" /> and the city of Nahor.

saying &#8220;Praised be the <sc>Lordsc>, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his faithful love<n id="1" /> for my master! The <sc>Lordsc> has led me<n id="2" /> to the house<n id="3" /> of my master&#8217;s relatives!&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

Then she will reply to me, &#8220;Drink, and I&#8217;ll draw water for your camels too.&#8221; May that woman be the one whom the <sc>Lordsc> has chosen for my master&#8217;s son.&#8217;p>
