<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> the devil<n id="2" /> brought him to Jerusalem,<n id="3" /> had him stand<n id="4" /> on the highest point of the temple,<n id="5" /> and said to him, &#8220;If<n id="6" /> you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> came to Nazareth,<n id="3" /> where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue<n id="4" /> on the Sabbath day, as was his custom.<n id="5" /> He<n id="6" /> stood up to read,<n id="7" />

All<n id="1" /> were speaking well of him, and were amazed at the gracious words coming out of his mouth. They<n id="2" /> said, &#8220;Isn&#8217;t this<n id="3" /> Joseph&#8217;s son?&#8221;

But<n id="1" /> Jesus rebuked him:<n id="2" /> &#8220;Silence! Come out of him!&#8221;<n id="3" /> Then, after the demon threw the man<n id="4" /> down in their midst, he came out of him without hurting him.<n id="5" />

Then<n id="1" /> he ordered the man<n id="2" /> to tell no one,<n id="3" /> but commanded him,<n id="4" /> &#8220;Go<n id="5" /> and show yourself to a priest, and bring the offering<n id="6" /> for your cleansing, as Moses commanded,<n id="7" /> as a testimony to them.&#8221;<n id="8" />

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed<n id="1" /> at him. He turned and said to the crowd that followed him, &#8220;I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith!&#8221;<n id="2" />

So listen carefully,<n id="1" /> for whoever has will be given more, but<n id="2" /> whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has<n id="3" /> will be taken from him.&#8221;p>

Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Where is your faith?&#8221;<n id="2" /> But they were afraid and amazed,<n id="3" /> saying to one another, &#8220;Who then is this? He commands even the winds and the water,<n id="4" /> and they obey him!&#8221;p>

As<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> stepped ashore,<n id="3" /> a certain man from the town<n id="4" /> met him who was possessed by demons.<n id="5" /> For a long time this man<n id="6" /> had worn no clothes and had not lived in a house, but among<n id="7" /> the tombs.

When he saw<n id="1" /> Jesus, he cried out, fell<n id="2" /> down before him, and shouted with a loud voice, &#8220;Leave me alone,<n id="3" /> Jesus, Son of the Most High<n id="4" /> God! I beg you, do not torment<n id="5" /> me!&#8221;

&#8220;Return to your home,<n id="1" /> and declare<n id="2" /> what God has done for you.&#8221;<n id="3" /> So<n id="4" /> he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole town<n id="5" /> what Jesus<n id="6" /> had done for him.p>

When<n id="1" /> the woman saw that she could not escape notice,<n id="2" /> she came trembling and fell down before him. In<n id="3" /> the presence of all the people, she explained why<n id="4" /> she had touched him and how she had been immediately healed.

Now when he came to the house, Jesus<n id="1" /> did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John,<n id="2" /> and James, and the child&#8217;s father and mother.

But when the crowds found out, they followed him. He<n id="1" /> welcomed them, spoke to them about the kingdom of God,<n id="2" /> and cured those who needed healing.<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Once<n id="1" /> when Jesus<n id="2" /> was praying<n id="3" /> by himself, and his disciples were nearby, he asked them,<n id="4" /> &#8220;Who do the crowds say that I am?&#8221;<n id="5" />

Jesus said to him, &#8220;Foxes have dens and the birds in the sky<n id="1" /> have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.&#8221;<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">As<n id="1" /> he said these things, a woman in the crowd spoke out<n id="2" /> to him, &#8220;Blessed is the womb<n id="3" /> that bore you and the breasts at which you nursed!&#8221;<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;I<n id="1" /> tell you, whoever acknowledges<n id="2" /> me before men,<n id="3" /> the Son of Man will also acknowledge<n id="4" /> before God&#8217;s angels.

Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Watch out and guard yourself from<n id="2" /> all types of greed,<n id="3" /> because one&#8217;s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.&#8221;

Then the Lord answered him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from its stall,<n id="2" /> and lead it to water?<n id="3" />
