The woman said to him, &#8220;Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw<n id="1" /> water.&#8221;<n id="2" />

Jesus said to them, &#8220;My food is to do the will of the one who sent me<n id="1" /> and to complete<n id="2" /> his work.<n id="3" />

The one who reaps receives pay<n id="1" /> and gathers fruit for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who reaps can rejoice together.

Then Jesus, because he knew they were going to come and seize him by force to make him king, withdrew again up the mountainside alone.<n id="1" />p>

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;This is the deed<n id="2" /> God requires<n id="3" /> &#8211; to believe in the one whom he<n id="4" /> sent.&#8221;

For I have come down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me.

This<n id="1" /> is the bread that has come down from heaven, so that a person<n id="2" /> may eat from it and not die.

But if a male child<n id="1" /> is circumcised<n id="2" /> on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses is not broken,<n id="3" /> why are you angry with me because I made a man completely well<n id="4" /> on the Sabbath?

<p class="bodytext">The Pharisees<n id="1" /> heard the crowd<n id="2" /> murmuring these things about Jesus,<n id="3" /> so the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers<n id="4" /> to arrest him.<n id="5" />

(Now they were asking this in an attempt to trap him, so that they could bring charges against<n id="1" /> him.)<n id="2" /> Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.<n id="3" />

His disciples asked him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Rabbi, who committed the sin that caused him to be born blind, this man<n id="2" /> or his parents?&#8221;<n id="3" />

Jesus answered, &#8220;Neither this man<n id="1" /> nor his parents sinned, but he was born blind so that<n id="2" /> the acts<n id="3" /> of God may be revealed<n id="4" /> through what happens to him.<n id="5" />

<p class="bodytext">After he said this, he added,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep.<n id="2" /> But I am going there to awaken him.&#8221;

But some of them said, &#8220;This is the man who caused the blind man to see!<n id="1" /> Couldn&#8217;t he have done something to keep Lazarus<n id="2" /> from dying?&#8221;p>

I knew that you always listen to me,<n id="1" /> but I said this<n id="2" /> for the sake of the crowd standing around here, that they may believe that you sent me.&#8221;

You do not realize<n id="1" /> that it is more to your advantage to have one man<n id="2" /> die for the people than for the whole nation to perish.&#8221;<n id="3" />

Now the Jewish feast of Passover<n id="1" /> was near, and many people went up to Jerusalem<n id="2" /> from the rural areas before the Passover to cleanse themselves ritually.<n id="3" />

(Now the chief priests and the Pharisees<n id="1" /> had given orders that anyone who knew where Jesus<n id="2" /> was should report it, so that they could arrest<n id="3" /> him.)<n id="4" />p>

While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become sons of light.&#8221;<n id="1" /> When Jesus had said these things, he went away and hid himself from them.p>

so that the word<n id="1" /> of Isaiah the prophet would be fulfilled. He said,<n id="2" /> &#8220;<b><i>Lord, who has believed our message, and to whom has the arm of the Lordi>b><n id="3" /> <b><i>been revealed?i>b>&#8221;<n id="4" />
