<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to them, &#8220;When I sent you out with no money bag,<n id="3" /> or traveler&#8217;s bag,<n id="4" /> or sandals, you didn&#8217;t lack<n id="5" /> anything, did you?&#8221; They replied,<n id="6" /> &#8220;Nothing.&#8221;

&#8220;Father, if you are willing, take<n id="1" /> this cup<n id="2" /> away from me. Yet not my will but yours<n id="3" /> be done.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">As<n id="1" /> they led him away, they seized Simon of Cyrene,<n id="2" /> who was coming in from the country.<n id="3" /> They placed the cross on his back and made him carry it behind Jesus.<n id="4" />

John answered them all,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I baptize you with water,<n id="2" /> but one more powerful than I am is coming &#8211; I am not worthy<n id="3" /> to untie the strap<n id="4" /> of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.<n id="5" />

Then<n id="1" /> as the men<n id="2" /> were starting to leave,<n id="3" /> Peter said to Jesus, &#8220;Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three shelters,<n id="4" /> one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah&#8221; &#8211; not knowing what he was saying.

<p class="bodytext">The next morning<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> departed and went to a deserted place. Yet<n id="3" /> the crowds were seeking him, and they came to him and tried to keep him from leaving them.

When<n id="1" /> the men came to Jesus,<n id="2" /> they said, &#8220;John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask,<n id="3" /> &#8216;Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?&#8217;&#8221;<n id="4" />

So listen carefully,<n id="1" /> for whoever has will be given more, but<n id="2" /> whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has<n id="3" /> will be taken from him.&#8221;p>

Then<n id="1" /> all the people of the Gerasenes<n id="2" /> and the surrounding region<n id="3" /> asked Jesus<n id="4" /> to leave them alone,<n id="5" /> for they were seized with great fear.<n id="6" /> So<n id="7" /> he got into the boat and left.<n id="8" />

Jesus answered,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You<n id="2" /> unbelieving<n id="3" /> and perverse generation! How much longer<n id="4" /> must I be with you and endure<n id="5" /> you?<n id="6" /> Bring your son here.&#8221;

But they did not understand this statement; its meaning<n id="1" /> had been concealed<n id="2" /> from them, so that they could not grasp it. Yet<n id="3" /> they were afraid to ask him about this statement.p>

Look, I have given you authority to tread<n id="1" /> on snakes and scorpions<n id="2" /> and on the full force of the enemy,<n id="3" /> and nothing will<n id="4" /> hurt you.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> was praying in a certain place. When<n id="3" /> he stopped, one of his disciples said to him, &#8220;Lord, teach us to pray, just as John<n id="4" /> taught<n id="5" /> his disciples.&#8221;

There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth<n id="1" /> when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob,<n id="2" /> and all the prophets in the kingdom of God<n id="3" /> but you yourselves thrown out.<n id="4" />

Then<n id="1" /> the manager said to himself, &#8216;What should I do, since my master is taking my position<n id="2" /> away from me? I&#8217;m not strong enough to dig,<n id="3" /> and I&#8217;m too ashamed<n id="4" /> to beg.

But before all this,<n id="1" /> they will seize<n id="2" /> you and persecute you, handing you over to the synagogues<n id="3" /> and prisons. You<n id="4" /> will be brought before kings and governors because of my name.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me<n id="2" /> in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms<n id="3" /> must be fulfilled.&#8221;

And look, I am sending you<n id="1" /> what my Father promised.<n id="2" /> But stay in the city<n id="3" /> until you have been clothed with power<n id="4" /> from on high.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">When<n id="1" /> the angels left them and went back to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, &#8220;Let us go over to Bethlehem<n id="2" /> and see this thing that has taken place, that the Lord<n id="3" /> has made known to us.&#8221;

As you are going with your accuser before the magistrate,<n id="1" /> make an effort to settle with him on the way, so that he will not drag you before the judge, and the judge hand you over to the officer,<n id="2" /> and the officer throw you into prison.
