So<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to them, &#8220;The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them are called &#8216;benefactors.&#8217;<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to them, &#8220;When I sent you out with no money bag,<n id="3" /> or traveler&#8217;s bag,<n id="4" /> or sandals, you didn&#8217;t lack<n id="5" /> anything, did you?&#8221; They replied,<n id="6" /> &#8220;Nothing.&#8221;

and said, &#8220;If<n id="1" /> you are the Christ,<n id="2" /> tell us.&#8221; But he said to them, &#8220;If<n id="3" /> I tell you, you will not<n id="4" /> believe,

[But Jesus said, &#8220;Father, forgive them, for they don&#8217;t know what they are doing.&#8221;]<n id="1" /> Then<n id="2" /> <i>they threw dicei><n id="3" /> <i>to divide his clothesi>.<n id="4" />

but they urged him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Stay with us, because it is getting toward evening and the day is almost done.&#8221; So<n id="2" /> he went in to stay with them.p>

<p class="bodytext">When<n id="1" /> he had taken his place at the table<n id="2" /> with them, he took the bread, blessed and broke it,<n id="3" /> and gave it to them.

So<n id="1" /> they got up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem.<n id="2" /> They<n id="3" /> found the eleven and those with them gathered together

And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in strips of cloth<n id="1" /> and laid him in a manger,<n id="2" /> because there was no place for them in the inn.<n id="3" />p>

Then<n id="1" /> he went down with them and came to Nazareth,<n id="2" /> and was obedient<n id="3" /> to them. But<n id="4" /> his mother kept all these things<n id="5" /> in her heart.<n id="6" />p>

Then some soldiers<n id="1" /> also asked him, &#8220;And as for us &#8211; what should we do?&#8221;<n id="2" /> He told them, &#8220;Take money from no one by violence<n id="3" /> or by false accusation,<n id="4" /> and be content with your pay.&#8221;p>

So<n id="1" /> they motioned<n id="2" /> to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they were about to sink.<n id="3" />

Then<n id="1" /> he ordered the man<n id="2" /> to tell no one,<n id="3" /> but commanded him,<n id="4" /> &#8220;Go<n id="5" /> and show yourself to a priest, and bring the offering<n id="6" /> for your cleansing, as Moses commanded,<n id="7" /> as a testimony to them.&#8221;<n id="8" />

So<n id="1" /> he answered them,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Go tell<n id="3" /> John what you have seen and heard:<n id="4" /> The blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the<n id="5" /> deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have good news proclaimed to them.

Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Where is your faith?&#8221;<n id="2" /> But they were afraid and amazed,<n id="3" /> saying to one another, &#8220;Who then is this? He commands even the winds and the water,<n id="4" /> and they obey him!&#8221;p>

But when the crowds found out, they followed him. He<n id="1" /> welcomed them, spoke to them about the kingdom of God,<n id="2" /> and cured those who needed healing.<n id="3" />

Blessed are those slaves<n id="1" /> whom their master finds alert<n id="2" /> when he returns! I tell you the truth,<n id="3" /> he will dress himself to serve,<n id="4" /> have them take their place at the table,<n id="5" /> and will come<n id="6" /> and wait on them!<n id="7" />

Returning<n id="1" /> home, he calls together<n id="2" /> his<n id="3" /> friends and neighbors, telling them, &#8216;Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost.&#8217;

But<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to them, &#8220;You are the ones who justify yourselves in men&#8217;s eyes,<n id="3" /> but God knows your hearts. For what is highly prized<n id="4" /> among men is utterly detestable<n id="5" /> in God&#8217;s sight.p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now at one point<n id="1" /> the Pharisees<n id="2" /> asked Jesus<n id="3" /> when the kingdom of God<n id="4" /> was coming, so he answered, &#8220;The kingdom of God is not coming with signs<n id="5" /> to be observed,

Then<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> said to them, &#8220;I tell you the truth,<n id="3" /> there is no one who has left home or wife or brothers<n id="4" /> or parents or children for the sake of God&#8217;s kingdom
