It<n id="1" /> had been revealed<n id="2" /> to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die<n id="3" /> before<n id="4" /> he had seen the Lord&#8217;s Christ.<n id="5" />

The devil said to him, &#8220;If<n id="1" /> you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.&#8221;<n id="2" />

and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He<n id="1" /> unrolled<n id="2" /> the scroll and found the place where it was written,p>

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he rolled up<n id="2" /> the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on<n id="3" /> him.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret,<n id="2" /> and the crowd was pressing around him<n id="3" /> to hear the word of God.

<t /><p class="bodytext">After<n id="1" /> this, Jesus<n id="2" /> went out and saw a tax collector<n id="3" /> named Levi<n id="4" /> sitting at the tax booth.<n id="5" /> &#8220;Follow me,&#8221;<n id="6" /> he said to him.

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Levi gave a great banquet<n id="2" /> in his house for Jesus,<n id="3" /> and there was a large crowd of tax collectors and others sitting<n id="4" /> at the table with them.

After<n id="1" /> looking around<n id="2" /> at them all, he said to the man,<n id="3" /> &#8220;Stretch out your hand.&#8221; The man<n id="4" /> did so, and his hand was restored.<n id="5" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Soon<n id="1" /> afterward<n id="2" /> Jesus<n id="3" /> went to a town<n id="4" /> called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him.

Simon answered,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I suppose the one who had the bigger debt canceled.&#8221;<n id="2" /> Jesus<n id="3" /> said to him, &#8220;You have judged rightly.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Some time<n id="1" /> afterward<n id="2" /> he went on through towns<n id="3" /> and villages, preaching and proclaiming the good news<n id="4" /> of the kingdom of God.<n id="5" /> The<n id="6" /> twelve were with him,

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now Jesus&#8217;<n id="1" /> mother and his brothers<n id="2" /> came to him, but<n id="3" /> they could not get near him because of the crowd.

The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go<n id="1" /> with him, but Jesus<n id="2" /> sent him away, saying,

because he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying.<n id="1" />p> <p class="bodytext">As Jesus was on his way, the crowds pressed<n id="2" /> around him.

<t /><p class="bodytext">When<n id="1" /> the apostles returned,<n id="2" /> they told Jesus<n id="3" /> everything they had done. Then<n id="4" /> he took them with him and they withdrew privately to a town<n id="5" /> called Bethsaida.<n id="6" />

But Jesus<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;Let the dead bury their own dead,<n id="2" /> but as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.&#8221;<n id="3" />

The expert in religious law<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;The one who showed mercy<n id="2" /> to him.&#8221; So<n id="3" /> Jesus said to him, &#8220;Go and do<n id="4" /> the same.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he said to them, &#8220;Suppose one of you<n id="2" /> has a friend, and you go to him<n id="3" /> at midnight and say to him, &#8216;Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,<n id="4" />

And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but the person who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit<n id="1" /> will not be forgiven.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> someone from the crowd said to him, &#8220;Teacher, tell<n id="2" /> my brother to divide the inheritance with me.&#8221;
