<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> in those days Jesus came from Nazareth<n id="2" /> in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan River.<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now after John was imprisoned,<n id="1" /> Jesus went into Galilee and proclaimed the gospel<n id="2" /> of God.<n id="3" />

As he went along the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, Simon&#8217;s brother, casting a net into the sea (for they were fishermen).<n id="1" />

Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.p>

Which is easier,<n id="1" /> to say to the paralytic, &#8216;Your sins are forgiven,&#8217; or to say, &#8216;Stand up, take your stretcher, and walk&#8217;?

As he went along, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus, sitting at the tax booth.<n id="1" /> &#8220;Follow me,&#8221; he said to him. And he got up and followed him.

But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, but is guilty of an eternal sin&#8221;<n id="1" />

These are the ones sown on rocky ground: As soon as they hear the word, they receive it with joy.

But<n id="1" /> they have no root in themselves and do not endure.<n id="2" /> Then, when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately they fall away.

but<n id="1" /> worldly cares, the seductiveness of wealth,<n id="2" /> and the desire for other things come in and choke the word,<n id="3" /> and it produces nothing.

<t /><p class="bodytext">He also said to them, &#8220;A lamp<n id="1" /> isn&#8217;t brought to be put under a basket<n id="2" /> or under a bed, is it? Isn&#8217;t it to be placed on a lampstand?

So<n id="1" /> after leaving the crowd, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat,<n id="2" /> and other boats were with him.

His disciples said to him, &#8220;You see the crowd pressing against you and you say, &#8216;Who touched me?&#8217;&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">While he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue ruler&#8217;s<n id="1" /> house saying, &#8220;Your daughter has died. Why trouble the teacher any longer?&#8221;

Immediately she hurried back to the king and made her request:<n id="1" /> &#8220;I want the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> the apostles gathered around Jesus and told him everything they had done and taught.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Immediately Jesus<n id="1" /> made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dispersed the crowd.

For Moses said, &#8216;<b><i>Honor your father and your motheri>b>,&#8217;<n id="1" /> and, &#8216;<i><b>Whoever insults his father or mother must be put to deathb>.i>&#8217;<n id="2" />

He said to them, &#8220;Are you so foolish? Don&#8217;t you understand that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him?

For it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and then goes out into the sewer.&#8221;<n id="1" /> (This means all foods are clean.)<n id="2" />
