So<n id="1" /> she went out and said to her mother, &#8220;What should I ask for?&#8221; Her mother<n id="2" /> said, &#8220;The head of John the baptizer.&#8221;<n id="3" />

Immediately she hurried back to the king and made her request:<n id="1" /> &#8220;I want the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.&#8221;

After Jesus<n id="1" /> took him aside privately, away from the crowd, he put his fingers in the man&#8217;s<n id="2" /> ears, and after spitting, he touched his tongue.<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then the Pharisees<n id="1" /> came and began to argue with Jesus, asking for<n id="2" /> a sign from heaven<n id="3" /> to test him.

A member of the crowd said to him, &#8220;Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that makes him mute.

I tell you the truth,<n id="1" /> whoever does not receive<n id="2" /> the kingdom of God like a child<n id="3" /> will never<n id="4" /> enter it.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, &#8220;How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!&#8221;

For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom<n id="1" /> for many.&#8221;p>

At harvest time he sent a slave<n id="1" /> to the tenants to collect from them<n id="2" /> his portion of the crop.<n id="3" />

What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy<n id="1" /> those tenants and give the vineyard to others.<n id="2" />

Then Jesus said to them, &#8220;Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar&#8217;s, and to God the things that are God&#8217;s.&#8221;<n id="1" /> And they were utterly amazed at him.p>

Jesus said to them, &#8220;Aren&#8217;t you deceived<n id="1" /> for this reason, because you don&#8217;t know the scriptures or the power of God?

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he<n id="2" /> sat down opposite the offering box,<n id="3" /> and watched the crowd putting coins into it. Many rich people were throwing in large amounts.

For they all gave out of their wealth.<n id="1" /> But she, out of her poverty, put in what she had to live on, everything she had.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> as Jesus<n id="2" /> was going out of the temple courts, one of his disciples said to him, &#8220;Teacher, look at these tremendous stones and buildings!&#8221;<n id="3" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">So<n id="1" /> while he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John,<n id="2" /> and Andrew asked him privately,

One of the bystanders drew his sword and struck the high priest&#8217;s slave,<n id="1" /> cutting off his ear.

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death, but they did not find anything.

Let the Christ,<n id="1" /> the king of Israel, come down from the cross now, that we may see and believe!&#8221; Those who were crucified with him also spoke abusively to him.<n id="2" />p>

There were also women, watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses,<n id="1" /> and Salome.
