<p class="bodytext">These divisions of the gatekeepers, corresponding to their leaders, had assigned responsibilities, like their relatives, as they served in the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple.p>

and the sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel. They were in charge of the storehouses in the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple.p>

Realize<n id="1" /> now that the <sc>Lordsc> has chosen you to build a temple as his sanctuary. Be strong and do it!&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">David said,<n id="1" /> &#8220;All of this I put in writing as the <sc>Lordsc> directed me and gave me insight regarding the details of the blueprints.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

All who possessed precious<n id="1" /> stones donated them to the treasury of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple, which was under the supervision of Jehiel the Gershonite.

When all the leaders<n id="1" /> of Israel came to the king at Hebron, David made an agreement<n id="2" /> with them in Hebron before the <sc>Lordsc>. They anointed<n id="3" /> David king over Israel, just as the <sc>Lordsc> had announced through Samuel.<n id="4" />p>

Then David said, &#8220;Only the Levites may carry the ark of God, for the <sc>Lordsc> chose them to carry the ark of the <sc>Lordsc> and to serve before him perpetually.

<p class="bodytext">God sent an angel<n id="1" /> to ravage<n id="2" /> Jerusalem. As he was doing so,<n id="3" /> the <sc>Lordsc> watched<n id="4" /> and relented from<n id="5" /> his judgment.<n id="6" /> He told the angel who was destroying, &#8220;That&#8217;s enough!<n id="7" /> Stop now!&#8221;<n id="8" />p> <p class="bodytext">Now the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s angel was standing near the threshing floor of Ornan<n id="9" /> the Jebusite.

He told them,<n id="1" /> &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> your God is with you!<n id="2" /> He has made you secure on every side,<n id="3" /> for he handed over to me the inhabitants of the region<n id="4" /> and the region<n id="5" /> is subdued before the <sc>Lordsc> and his people.

So now, in the sight of all Israel, the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s assembly, and in the hearing of our God, I say this:<n id="1" /> Carefully observe<n id="2" /> all the commands of the <sc>Lordsc> your God, so that you may possess this good land and may leave it as a permanent inheritance for your children after you.p>

<p class="bodytext">David said to his son Solomon: &#8220;Be strong and brave! Do it! Don&#8217;t be afraid and don&#8217;t panic!<n id="1" /> For the <sc>Lordsc> God, my God, is with you. He will not leave you or abandon you before all the work for the service of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple is finished.

<t /><p class="bodytext">The next day they made sacrifices and offered burnt sacrifices to the <sc>Lordsc> (1,000 bulls, 1,000 rams, 1,000 lambs), along with their accompanying drink offerings and many other sacrifices for all Israel.

<t /><p class="bodytext">These were the leaders of David&#8217;s warriors who helped establish and stabilize his rule over all Israel, in accordance with the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s word.<n id="1" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">The following is a record of the armed warriors who came with their leaders and joined David in Hebron in order to make David king in Saul&#8217;s place, in accordance with the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s decree:<n id="1" />p>

The <sc>Lordsc> was so furious with Uzzah,<n id="1" /> he killed him, because he reached out his hand and touched the ark.<n id="2" /> He died right there before God.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">David was angry because the <sc>Lordsc> attacked Uzzah;<n id="1" /> so he called that place Perez Uzzah,<n id="2" /> which remains its name to this very day.

David realized that the <sc>Lordsc> had established him as king over Israel and that he had elevated<n id="1" /> his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.p>

David asked God, &#8220;Should I march up against the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?&#8221; The <sc>Lordsc> said to him, &#8220;March up! I will hand them over to you!&#8221;

David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem<n id="1" /> to bring the ark of the <sc>Lordsc> up to the place he had prepared for it.

He told them: &#8220;You are the leaders of the Levites&#8217; families. You and your relatives must consecrate yourselves and bring the ark of the <sc>Lordsc> God of Israel up to the place I have prepared for it.
