Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God within the land.” ¹ 

¹ Then Pharaoh quickly ²  summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned ³  against the Lord your God and against you!

But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not release the Israelites.

Pharaoh will think ¹  regarding the Israelites, ‘They are wandering around confused ²  in the land – the desert has closed in on them.’ ³ 

And the Egyptians will know ¹  that I am the Lord when I have gained my honor ²  because of Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”

The Egyptians chased them and followed them into the middle of the sea – all the horses of Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.

The chariots of Pharaoh ¹  and his army he has thrown into the sea, and his chosen ²  officers were drowned ³  in the Red Sea.

and the other Eliezer (for Moses had said, ¹  “The God of my father has been my help ²  and delivered ³  me from the sword of Pharaoh”).

you must say to them, ¹  “We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt in a powerful way. ² 

And he ¹  brought signs and great, devastating wonders on Egypt, on Pharaoh, and on his whole family ²  before our very eyes.

They travel down to Egypt without seeking my will, ¹  seeking Pharaoh’s protection, and looking for safety in Egypt’s protective shade. ² 

But Pharaoh’s protection will bring you nothing but shame, and the safety of Egypt’s protective shade nothing but humiliation.

I made all of these other people drink it: Pharaoh, king of Egypt; ¹  his attendants, his officials, his people,

The following events also occurred ¹  while the Babylonian forces ²  had temporarily withdrawn from Jerusalem ³  because the army of Pharaoh was coming.

In three more days Pharaoh will reinstate you ¹  and restore you to your office. You will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you did before ²  when you were cupbearer.

In the morning he ¹  was troubled, so he called for ²  all the diviner-priests ³  of Egypt and all its wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, ⁴  but no one could interpret ⁵  them for him. ⁶ 

When all the land of Egypt experienced the famine, the people cried out to Pharaoh for food. Pharaoh said to all the people of Egypt, ¹  “Go to Joseph and do whatever he tells you.”

So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh. Each ¹  of the Egyptians sold his field, for the famine was severe. ²  So the land became Pharaoh’s.

But he did not purchase the land of the priests because the priests had an allotment from Pharaoh and they ate from their allotment that Pharaoh gave them. That is why they did not sell their land.

So Joseph made it a statute, ¹  which is in effect ²  to this day throughout the land of Egypt: One-fifth belongs to Pharaoh. Only the land of the priests did not become Pharaoh’s.
