So Jacob<n id="1" /> went over and kissed him. When Isaac caught the scent<n id="2" /> of his clothing, he blessed him, saying,p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;Yes,<n id="3" /> my son smellsp> <p class="poetry">like the scent of an open fieldp> <p class="poetry">which the <sc>Lordsc> has blessed.p>

So Leah became pregnant<n id="1" /> and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben,<n id="2" /> for she said, &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> has looked with pity on my oppressed condition.<n id="3" /> Surely my husband will love me now.&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">When Leah saw that she had stopped having children, she gave<n id="1" /> her servant Zilpah to Jacob as a wife.

There he said to them, &#8220;I can tell that your father&#8217;s attitude toward me has changed,<n id="1" /> but the God of my father has been with me.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Once<n id="1" /> during breeding season I saw<n id="2" /> in a dream that the male goats mating with<n id="3" /> the flock were streaked, speckled, and spotted.

If you mistreat my daughters or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no one else is with us, realize<n id="1" /> that God is witness to your actions.&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

When Jacob saw them, he exclaimed,<n id="1" /> &#8220;This is the camp of God!&#8221; So he named that place Mahanaim.<n id="2" />p>

When the man<n id="1" /> saw that he could not defeat Jacob,<n id="2" /> he struck<n id="3" /> the socket of his hip so the socket of Jacob&#8217;s hip was dislocated while he wrestled with him.p>

So Jacob named the place Peniel,<n id="1" /> explaining,<n id="2" /> &#8220;Certainly<n id="3" /> I have seen God face to face<n id="4" /> and have survived.&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

When Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, who ruled that area, saw her, he grabbed her, forced himself on her,<n id="1" /> and sexually assaulted her.<n id="2" />

When Joseph&#8217;s<n id="1" /> brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them,<n id="2" /> they hated Joseph<n id="3" /> and were not able to speak to him kindly.<n id="4" />p>

So Jacob<n id="1" /> said to him, &#8220;Go now and check on<n id="2" /> the welfare<n id="3" /> of your brothers and of the flocks, and bring me word.&#8221; So Jacob<n id="4" /> sent him from the valley of Hebron.p>

Come now, let&#8217;s kill him, throw him into one of the cisterns, and then say that a wild<n id="1" /> animal ate him. Then we&#8217;ll see how his dreams turn out!&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

The warden did not concern himself<n id="1" /> with anything that was in Joseph&#8217;s<n id="2" /> care because the <sc>Lordsc> was with him and whatever he was doing the <sc>Lordsc> was making successful.p>

<p class="bodytext">When the chief baker saw that the interpretation of the first dream was favorable,<n id="1" /> he said to Joseph, &#8220;I also appeared in my dream and there were three baskets of white bread<n id="2" /> on my head.
