The <sc>Lordsc> said<n id="1" /> to Moses, &#8220;When you go back to Egypt,<n id="2" /> see that you<n id="3" /> do before Pharaoh all the wonders I have put under your control.<n id="4" /> But I will harden<n id="5" /> his heart<n id="6" /> and<n id="7" /> he will not let the people go.

They will cover<n id="1" /> the surface<n id="2" /> of the earth, so that you<n id="3" /> will be unable to see the ground. They will eat the remainder of what escaped<n id="4" /> &#8211; what is left over<n id="5" /> for you &#8211; from the hail, and they will eat every tree that grows for you from the field.

They will fill your houses, the houses of your servants, and all the houses of Egypt, such as<n id="1" /> neither<n id="2" /> your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since they have been<n id="3" /> in the land until this day!&#8217;&#8221; Then Moses<n id="4" /> turned and went out from Pharaoh.p>

The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, so that when I see<n id="1" /> the blood I will pass over you,<n id="2" /> and this plague<n id="3" /> will not fall on you to destroy you<n id="4" /> when I attack<n id="5" /> the land of Egypt.<n id="6" />p>

For the <sc>Lordsc> will pass through to strike Egypt, and when he sees<n id="1" /> the blood on the top of the doorframe and the two side posts, then the <sc>Lordsc> will pass over the door, and he will not permit the destroyer<n id="2" /> to enter your houses to strike you.<n id="3" />

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">When Pharaoh released<n id="2" /> the people, God did not lead them<n id="3" /> by the way to the land<n id="4" /> of the Philistines,<n id="5" /> although<n id="6" /> that was nearby, for God said,<n id="7" /> &#8220;Lest<n id="8" /> the people change their minds<n id="9" /> and return to Egypt when they experience<n id="10" /> war.&#8221;

When<n id="1" /> the Israelites saw it, they said to one another,<n id="2" /> &#8220;What is it?&#8221; because they did not know what it was.<n id="3" /> Moses said to them, &#8220;It is the bread<n id="4" /> that the <sc>Lordsc> has given you for food.<n id="5" />p>

See, because the <sc>Lordsc> has given you the Sabbath, that is why<n id="1" /> he is giving you food for two days on the sixth day. Each of you stay where you are;<n id="2" /> let no one<n id="3" /> go out of his place on the seventh day.&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Moses said, &#8220;This is what<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> has commanded: &#8216;Fill an omer with it to be kept<n id="2" /> for generations to come,<n id="3" /> so that they may see<n id="4" /> the food I fed you in the desert when I brought you out from the land of Egypt.&#8217;&#8221;

When Moses&#8217; father-in-law saw all that he was doing for the people, he said, &#8220;What is this<n id="1" /> that you are doing for the people?<n id="2" /> Why are you sitting by yourself, and all the people stand around you from morning until evening?&#8221;p>

If a man gives his neighbor a donkey or an ox or a sheep or any beast to keep, and it dies or is hurt<n id="1" /> or is carried away<n id="2" /> without anyone seeing it,<n id="3" />

You are to observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread; seven days<n id="1" /> you must eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of Abib, for at that time<n id="2" /> you came out of Egypt. No one may appear before<n id="3" /> me empty-handed.p>

<p class="bodytext">When he approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, Moses became extremely angry.<n id="1" /> He threw the tablets from his hands and broke them to pieces at the bottom of the mountain.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">Moses said to the <sc>Lordsc>, &#8220;See, you have been saying to me, &#8216;Bring this people up,&#8217;<n id="1" /> but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. But you said, &#8216;I know you by name,<n id="2" /> and also you have found favor in my sight.&#8217;

Now if I have found favor in your sight, show me<n id="1" /> your way, that I may know you,<n id="2" /> that I may continue to find<n id="3" /> favor in your sight. And see<n id="4" /> that this nation is your people.&#8221;p>

No one is to come up with you; do not let anyone be seen anywhere on the mountain; not even the flocks or the herds may graze in front of that mountain.&#8221;

For I will drive out<n id="1" /> the nations before you and enlarge your borders; no one will covet<n id="2" /> your land when you go up<n id="3" /> to appear before the <sc>Lordsc> your God three times<n id="4" /> in the year.p>

When the Israelites would see<n id="1" /> the face of Moses, that<n id="2" /> the skin of Moses&#8217; face shone, Moses would put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="3" />p>

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">When the people saw that Moses delayed<n id="2" /> in coming down<n id="3" /> from the mountain, they<n id="4" /> gathered around Aaron and said to him, &#8220;Get up,<n id="5" /> make us gods<n id="6" /> that will go before us. As for this fellow Moses,<n id="7" /> the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what<n id="8" /> has become of him!&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">He said, &#8220;See, I am going to make<n id="1" /> a covenant before all your people. I will do wonders such as have not been done<n id="2" /> in all the earth, nor in any nation. All the people among whom you live will see the work of the <sc>Lordsc>, for it is a fearful thing that I am doing with you.<n id="3" />p>
