Then you must come to the place the <sc>Lordsc> your God chooses for his name to reside, bringing<n id="1" /> everything I am commanding you &#8211; your burnt offerings, sacrifices, tithes, the personal offerings you have prepared,<n id="2" /> and all your choice votive offerings which you devote to him.<n id="3" />

If the place he<n id="1" /> chooses to locate his name is too far for you, you may slaughter any of your herd and flock he<n id="2" /> has given you just as I have stipulated; you may eat them in your villages<n id="3" /> just as you wish.

You shall rejoice before him<n id="1" /> &#8211; you, your son, your daughter, your male and female slaves, the Levites in your villages,<n id="2" /> the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows among you &#8211; in the place where the <sc>Lordsc> chooses to locate his name.

You must do what you are instructed, and the verdict they pronounce to you, without fail. Do not deviate right or left from what they tell you.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;But if any prophet presumes to speak anything in my name that I have not authorized<n id="1" /> him to speak, or speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die.

her first husband who divorced her is not permitted to remarry<n id="1" /> her after she has become ritually impure, for that is offensive to the <sc>Lordsc>.<n id="2" /> You must not bring guilt on the land<n id="3" /> which the <sc>Lordsc> your God is giving you as an inheritance.p>

you must take the first of all the ground&#8217;s produce you harvest from the land the <sc>Lordsc> your God is giving you, place it in a basket, and go to the place where he<n id="1" /> chooses to locate his name.<n id="2" />

Then you must inscribe on them all the words of this law when you cross over, so that you may enter the land the <sc>Lordsc> your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey just as the <sc>Lordsc>, the God of your ancestors,<n id="1" /> said to you.

The generation to come &#8211; your descendants who will rise up after you, as well as the foreigner who will come from distant places &#8211; will see<n id="1" /> the afflictions of that land and the illnesses that the <sc>Lordsc> has brought on it.

Then their children, who have not known this law,<n id="1" /> will also hear about and learn to fear the <sc>Lordsc> your God for as long as you live in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess.&#8221;p>

&#8220;Go up to this Abarim<n id="1" /> hill country, to Mount Nebo (which is in the land of Moab opposite Jericho<n id="2" />) and look at the land of Canaan that I am giving to the Israelites as a possession.

You<n id="1" /> stood before the <sc>Lordsc> your God at Horeb and he<n id="2" /> said to me, &#8220;Assemble the people before me so that I can tell them my commands.<n id="3" /> Then they will learn to revere me all the days they live in the land, and they will instruct their children.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">So I instructed you at that time regarding everything you should do.

Then I said to you, &#8220;You have come to the Amorite hill country which the <sc>Lordsc> our God is about to give<n id="1" /> us.

<t /><p class="bodytext">So it was that after all the military men had been eliminated from the community,<n id="1" />

anything that crawls<n id="1" /> on the ground, or any fish in the deep waters of the earth.<n id="2" />

Have a people ever heard the voice of God speaking from the middle of fire, as you yourselves have, and lived to tell about it?

These are the stipulations, statutes, and ordinances that Moses spoke to the Israelites after he had brought them out of Egypt,

Their territory extended<n id="1" /> from Aroer at the edge of the Arnon valley as far as Mount Siyon<n id="2" /> &#8211; that is, Hermon &#8211;
