I will set my face against that person and will make him an object lesson and a byword<n id="1" /> and will cut him off from among my people. Then you will know that I am the <sc>Lordsc>.p>

Even if these three men were in it, as surely as I live, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>, they could not save their own sons or daughters &#8211; they would save only their own lives.p>

I will set<n id="1" /> my face against them &#8211; although they have escaped from the fire,<n id="2" /> the fire will still consume them! Then you will know that I am the <sc>Lord,sc> when I set my face against them.

As surely as I live, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>, your sister Sodom and her daughters never behaved as wickedly as you and your daughters have behaved.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;Therefore this is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says: As surely as I live, I will certainly repay him<n id="1" /> for despising my oath and breaking my covenant!

All the choice men<n id="1" /> among his troops will die<n id="2" /> by the sword and the survivors will be scattered to every wind. Then you will know that I, the <sc>Lord,sc> have spoken!p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;As surely as I live, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>,<n id="1" /> you will not quote this proverb in Israel anymore!

I said to them, &#8220;Each of you must get rid of the detestable idols you keep before you,<n id="1" /> and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the <sc>Lordsc> your God.&#8221;

I also gave them my Sabbaths<n id="1" /> as a reminder of our relationship,<n id="2" /> so that they would know that I, the <sc>Lord,sc> sanctify them.<n id="3" />

I also swore<n id="1" /> to them in the wilderness that I would scatter them among the nations and disperse them throughout the lands.<n id="2" />

I declared them to be defiled because of their sacrifices<n id="1" /> &#8211; they caused all their first born to pass through the fire<n id="2" /> &#8211; so that I would devastate them, so that they will know that I am the <sc>Lordsc>.&#8217;<n id="3" />p>

As surely as I live, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>, with a powerful hand and an outstretched arm,<n id="1" /> and with an outpouring of rage, I will be king over you.

I will eliminate from among you the rebels and those who revolt<n id="1" /> against me. I will bring them out from the land where they have been residing, but they will not come to the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the <sc>Lordsc>.p>

Then you will know that I am the <sc>Lordsc> when I bring you to the land of Israel, to the land I swore<n id="1" /> to give to your fathers.

Then you will know that I am the <sc>Lordsc>, when I deal with you for the sake of my reputation and not according to your wicked conduct and corrupt deeds, O house of Israel, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>.&#8217;&#8221;p>

Then everyone will know that I am the <sc>Lord,sc> who drew my sword from its sheath &#8211; it will not be sheathed again!&#8217;p>

<p class="poetry">You will become fuel for the fire &#8211;p> <p class="poetry">your blood will stain the middle of the land;<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">you will no longer be remembered,p> <p class="poetry">for I, the <sc>Lordsc>, have spoken.&#8217;&#8221;p>

As silver is melted in a furnace, so you will be melted in it, and you will know that I, the <sc>Lord,sc> have poured out my anger on you.&#8217;&#8221;p>

You will drain it dry,<n id="1" /> gnaw its pieces,<n id="2" /> and tear out your breasts,<n id="3" /> for I have spoken, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;I the <sc>Lordsc> have spoken; judgment<n id="1" /> is coming and I will act! I will not relent, or show pity, or be sorry!<n id="2" /> I will judge you<n id="3" /> according to your conduct<n id="4" /> and your deeds, declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>.&#8217;&#8221;p>
