His children are far ¹  from safety, and they are crushed ²  at the place where judgment is rendered, ³  nor is there anyone to deliver them. ⁴ 

how much less man, who is abominable and corrupt, ¹  who drinks in evil like water! ² 

he will deliver even someone who is not innocent, ¹  who will escape ²  through the cleanness of your hands.”

Do you intend to criticize mere words, and treat ¹  the words of a despairing man as wind?

and ¹  he contends with God on behalf of man as a man ²  pleads ³  for his friend.

They destroy ¹  my path; they succeed in destroying me ²  without anyone assisting ³  them.

to cause it to rain on an uninhabited land, ¹  a desert where there are no human beings, ² 

Can anyone catch it by its eyes, ¹  or pierce its nose with a snare? ² 

“If only I had ¹  someone to hear me! Here is my signature – ²  let the Almighty answer me! If only I had an indictment ³  that my accuser had written. ⁴ 

Now the day came when ²  the sons of God ³  came to present themselves before ⁴  the Lord – and Satan ⁵  also arrived among them.

Now the day ²  came when Job’s ³  sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

For calamity, ¹  there is derision (according to the ideas of the fortunate ² ) – a fate ³  for those whose feet slip!

If ¹  he tears down, it cannot be rebuilt; if he imprisons a person, there is no escape. ² 

who says to a king, ¹  ‘Worthless man’ ²  and to nobles, ‘Wicked men,’

But now, the sun ¹  cannot be looked at ²  – it is bright in the skies – after a wind passed and swept the clouds away. ³ 

(41:1) ¹  See, his expectation is wrong, ²  he is laid low even at the sight of it. ³ 

and the Sabeans ¹  swooped down ²  and carried them all away, and they killed ³  the servants with the sword! ⁴  And I – only I alone ⁵  – escaped to tell you!”

So the Lord blessed the second part of Job’s life more than the first. He had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

They are destroyed ¹  between morning and evening; ²  they perish forever ³  without anyone regarding it. ⁴ 

“Therefore, ¹  blessed ²  is the man whom God corrects, ³  so do not despise the discipline ⁴  of the Almighty. ⁵
