“‘But the person ¹  who acts defiantly, ²  whether native-born or a resident foreigner, insults ³  the Lord. ⁴  That person ⁵  must be cut off ⁶  from among his people.

You must expel both men and women; you must put them outside the camp, so that ¹  they will not defile their camps, among which I live.”

All the days of his separation he must not eat anything that is produced by the grapevine, from seed ¹  to skin. ² 

Because he has despised ¹  the word of the Lord and has broken ²  his commandment, that person ³  must be completely cut off. ⁴  His iniquity will be on him.’” ⁵ 

“You and Eleazar the priest, and all the family leaders of the community, take the sum ¹  of the plunder that was captured, both people and animals.

Why ¹  have you brought up the Lord’s community into this wilderness? So that ²  we and our cattle should die here?

“Any vow or sworn obligation that would bring affliction to her, ¹  her husband can confirm or nullify. ² 

Then they must put over it a covering of fine leather ¹  and spread over that a cloth entirely of blue, and then they must insert its poles.

That is why those who speak in proverbs ¹  say, “Come to Heshbon, let it be built. Let the city of Sihon be established! ²
