<p class="bodytext">As I watched, I noticed<n id="1" /> a windstorm<n id="2" /> coming from the north &#8211; an enormous cloud, with lightning flashing,<n id="3" /> such that bright light<n id="4" /> rimmed it and came from<n id="5" /> it like glowing amber<n id="6" /> from the middle of a fire.

I saw an amber glow<n id="1" /> like a fire enclosed all around<n id="2" /> from his waist up. From his waist down I saw something that looked like fire. There was a brilliant light around it,

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Therefore, as surely as I live, says the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>, because you defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable idols and with all your abominable practices, I will withdraw; my eye will not pity you, nor will I spare<n id="1" /> you.

Then your survivors will remember me among the nations where they are exiled. They will realize<n id="1" /> how I was crushed by their unfaithful<n id="2" /> heart which turned from me and by their eyes which lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves<n id="3" /> because of the evil they have done and because of all their abominable practices.

The <sc>Lordsc><n id="1" /> said to the man dressed in linen, &#8220;Go between the wheelwork<n id="2" /> underneath the cherubim.<n id="3" /> Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city.&#8221; He went as I watched.p>

<p class="bodytext">As I watched, I noticed<n id="1" /> four wheels by the cherubim, one wheel beside each cherub;<n id="2" /> the wheels gleamed like jasper.<n id="3" />

The cherubim spread<n id="1" /> their wings, and they rose up from the earth<n id="2" /> while I watched (when they went the wheels went alongside them). They stopped at the entrance to the east gate of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple as the glory of the God of Israel hovered above them.p>

&#8220;Son of man, you are living in the midst of a rebellious house.<n id="1" /> They have eyes to see, but do not see, and ears to hear, but do not hear,<n id="2" /> because they are a rebellious house.p>

<p class="bodytext">So I did just as I was commanded. I carried out my belongings packed for exile during the day, and at evening I dug myself a hole through the wall with my hands. I went out in the darkness, carrying my baggage<n id="1" /> on my shoulder while they watched.p>

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;The prince<n id="1" /> who is among them will raise his belongings<n id="2" /> onto his shoulder in darkness, and will go out. He<n id="3" /> will dig a hole in the wall to leave through. He will cover his face so that he cannot see the land with his eyes.

No eye took pity on you to do even one of these things for you to spare you;<n id="1" /> you were thrown out into the open field<n id="2" /> because you were detested on the day you were born.p>

does not eat pagan sacrifices on the mountains<n id="1" /> or pray to the idols<n id="2" /> of the house of Israel, does not defile his neighbor&#8217;s wife, does not have sexual relations with a<n id="3" /> woman during her period,

But they rebelled against me, and refused to listen to me; no one got rid of their detestable idols,<n id="1" /> nor did they abandon the idols of Egypt. Then I decided to pour out<n id="2" /> my rage on them and fully vent my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

When I bring you out from the nations and gather you from the lands where you are scattered, I will accept you along with your soothing aroma. I will display my holiness among you in the sight of the nations.

Her priests abuse my law and have desecrated my holy things. They do not distinguish between the holy and the profane,<n id="1" /> or recognize any distinction between the unclean and the clean. They ignore<n id="2" /> my Sabbaths and I am profaned in their midst.

Say to the house of Israel, &#8216;This is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says: Realize I am about to desecrate my sanctuary &#8211; the source of your confident pride,<n id="1" /> the object in which your eyes delight,<n id="2" /> and your life&#8217;s passion.<n id="3" /> Your very own sons and daughters whom you have left behind will die<n id="4" /> by the sword.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;And you, son of man, this is what will happen on the day I take<n id="1" /> from them their stronghold &#8211; their beautiful source of joy, the object in which their eyes delight, and the main concern of their lives,<n id="2" /> as well as their sons and daughters:<n id="3" />

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;This is what the sovereign <sc>Lordsc> says: When I regather the house of Israel from the peoples where they are dispersed, I will reveal my sovereign power<n id="1" /> over them in the sight of the nations, and they will live in their land that I gave to my servant Jacob.

I will magnify<n id="1" /> my great name that has been profaned among the nations, that you have profaned among them. The nations will know that I am the <sc>Lord,sc> declares the sovereign <sc>Lordsc>, when I magnify myself among you in their sight.p>

You will advance<n id="1" /> against my people Israel like a cloud covering the earth. In the latter days I will bring you against my land so that the nations may acknowledge me, when before their eyes I magnify myself<n id="2" /> through you, O Gog.p>
