Pharaoh will not listen to you.<n id="1" /> I will reach into<n id="2" /> Egypt and bring out my regiments,<n id="3" /> my people the Israelites, from the land of Egypt with great acts of judgment.

<p class="bodytext">Moses said, &#8220;You will know this<n id="1" /> when the <sc>Lordsc> gives you<n id="2" /> meat to eat in the evening and bread in the morning to satisfy you, because the <sc>Lordsc> has heard your murmurings that you are murmuring against him. As for us, what are we?<n id="3" /> Your murmurings are not against us,<n id="4" /> but against the <sc>Lordsc>.&#8221;p>

&#8220;I have heard the murmurings of the Israelites. Tell them, &#8216;During the evening<n id="1" /> you will eat meat,<n id="2" /> and in the morning you will be satisfied<n id="3" /> with bread, so that you may know<n id="4" /> that I am the <sc>Lordsc> your God.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses&#8217; father-in-law, heard about all that God had done for Moses and for his people Israel, that<n id="2" /> the <sc>Lordsc> had brought Israel out of Egypt.<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;I am going to come<n id="1" /> to you in a dense cloud,<n id="2" /> so that the people may hear when I speak with you and so that they will always believe in you.&#8221;<n id="3" /> And Moses told the words of the people to the <sc>Lordsc>.p>

for it is his only covering &#8211; it is his garment for his body.<n id="1" /> What else can he sleep in?<n id="2" /> And<n id="3" /> when he cries out to me, I will hear, for I am gracious.p>

<p class="bodytext">Now when Moses went into<n id="1" /> the tent of meeting to speak with the <sc>Lordsc>,<n id="2" /> he heard the voice speaking to him from above the atonement lid<n id="3" /> that was on the ark of the testimony, from between the two cherubim.<n id="4" /> Thus he spoke to him.p>

then they will tell it to the inhabitants<n id="1" /> of this land. They have heard that you, <sc>Lordsc>, are among this people, that you, <sc>Lord,sc> are seen face to face,<n id="2" /> that your cloud stands over them, and that you go before them by day in a pillar of cloud and in a pillar of fire by night.

For all the people have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have tempted<n id="1" /> me now these ten times,<n id="2" /> and have not obeyed me,<n id="3" />

Then Moses and Aaron gathered the community together in front of the rock, and he said to them, &#8220;Listen, you rebels,<n id="1" /> must we bring<n id="2" /> water out of this rock for you?&#8221;

and her father hears of her vow or the obligation to which she has pledged herself, and her father remains silent about her,<n id="1" /> then all her vows will stand,<n id="2" /> and every obligation to which she has pledged herself will stand.

But if her father overrules her when he hears<n id="1" /> about it, then none<n id="2" /> of her vows or her obligations which she has pledged for herself will stand. And the <sc>Lordsc> will release<n id="3" /> her from it, because her father overruled her.p>

But if when her husband hears it he overrules her, then he will nullify<n id="1" /> the vow she has taken,<n id="2" /> and whatever she uttered impulsively which she has pledged for herself. And the <sc>Lordsc> will release her from it.p>

But if her husband clearly nullifies<n id="1" /> them when he hears them, then whatever she says<n id="2" /> by way of vows or obligations will not stand. Her husband has made them void, and the <sc>Lordsc> will release her from them.p>

But if her husband remains completely silent<n id="1" /> about her from day to day, he thus confirms all her vows or all her obligations which she is under; he confirms them because he remained silent about when he heard them.

But the <sc>Lordsc> was angry at me because of you and would not listen to me. Instead, he<n id="1" /> said to me, &#8220;Enough of that!<n id="2" /> Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now, Israel, pay attention to the statutes and ordinances<n id="1" /> I am about to teach you, so that you might live and go on to enter and take possession of the land that the <sc>Lordsc>, the God of your ancestors,<n id="2" /> is giving you.

So be sure to do them, because this will testify of your wise understanding<n id="1" /> to the people who will learn of all these statutes and say, &#8220;Indeed, this great nation is a very wise<n id="2" /> people.&#8221;

<t /><p class="bodytext">Indeed, ask about the distant past, starting from the day God created humankind<n id="1" /> on the earth, and ask<n id="2" /> from one end of heaven to the other, whether there has ever been such a great thing as this, or even a rumor of it.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then Moses called all the people of Israel together and said to them:<n id="1" /> &#8220;Listen, Israel, to the statutes and ordinances that I am about to deliver to you today; learn them and be careful to keep them!
