<p class="bodytext">After Jesus left<n id="1" /> the synagogue, he entered Simon&#8217;s house. Now Simon&#8217;s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus<n id="2" /> to help her.<n id="3" />

He got into<n id="1" /> one of the boats, which was Simon&#8217;s, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then<n id="2" /> Jesus<n id="3" /> sat down<n id="4" /> and taught the crowds from the boat.

how he entered the house of God, took<n id="1" /> and ate the sacred bread,<n id="2" /> which is not lawful<n id="3" /> for any to eat but the priests alone, and<n id="4" /> gave it to his companions?&#8221;<n id="5" />

The good person out of the good treasury of his<n id="1" /> heart<n id="2" /> produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasury<n id="3" /> produces evil, for his mouth speaks<n id="4" /> from what fills<n id="5" /> his heart.p>

But the person who hears and does not put my words into practice<n id="1" /> is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When<n id="2" /> the river burst against that house,<n id="3" /> it collapsed immediately, and was utterly destroyed!&#8221;<n id="4" />p>

As<n id="1" /> she stood<n id="2" /> behind him at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. She<n id="3" /> wiped them with her hair,<n id="4" /> kissed<n id="5" /> them,<n id="6" /> and anointed<n id="7" /> them with the perfumed oil.

He<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;You have been given<n id="2" /> the opportunity to know<n id="3" /> the secrets<n id="4" /> of the kingdom of God,<n id="5" /> but for others they are in parables, so that <b><i>although they see they may not see, and although they hear they may not understandi>b>.<n id="6" />p>

Those along the path are the ones who have heard; then the devil<n id="1" /> comes and takes away the word<n id="2" /> from their hearts, so that they may not believe<n id="3" /> and be saved.

Those<n id="1" /> on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while,<n id="2" /> but<n id="3" /> in a time of testing<n id="4" /> fall away.<n id="5" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">One<n id="1" /> day Jesus<n id="2" /> got into a boat<n id="3" /> with his disciples and said to them, &#8220;Let&#8217;s go across to the other side of the lake.&#8221; So<n id="4" /> they set out,

As<n id="1" /> Jesus<n id="2" /> stepped ashore,<n id="3" /> a certain man from the town<n id="4" /> met him who was possessed by demons.<n id="5" /> For a long time this man<n id="6" /> had worn no clothes and had not lived in a house, but among<n id="7" /> the tombs.

Then<n id="1" /> all the people of the Gerasenes<n id="2" /> and the surrounding region<n id="3" /> asked Jesus<n id="4" /> to leave them alone,<n id="5" /> for they were seized with great fear.<n id="6" /> So<n id="7" /> he got into the boat and left.<n id="8" />

Then<n id="1" /> a man named Jairus, who was a ruler<n id="2" /> of the synagogue,<n id="3" /> came up. Falling<n id="4" /> at Jesus&#8217; feet, he pleaded<n id="5" /> with him to come to his house,

Now when he came to the house, Jesus<n id="1" /> did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John,<n id="2" /> and James, and the child&#8217;s father and mother.

But when the crowds found out, they followed him. He<n id="1" /> welcomed them, spoke to them about the kingdom of God,<n id="2" /> and cured those who needed healing.<n id="3" />

&#8216;Even the dust of your town<n id="1" /> that clings to our feet we wipe off<n id="2" /> against you.<n id="3" /> Nevertheless know this: The kingdom of God has come.&#8217;<n id="4" />

The people<n id="1" /> of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented when Jonah preached to them<n id="2" /> &#8211; and now,<n id="3" /> something greater than Jonah is here!p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Meanwhile,<n id="1" /> when many thousands of the crowd had gathered so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus<n id="2" /> began to speak first to his disciples, &#8220;Be on your guard against<n id="3" /> the yeast of the Pharisees,<n id="4" /> which is hypocrisy.<n id="5" />

The Lord replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Who then is the faithful and wise manager,<n id="2" /> whom the master puts in charge of his household servants,<n id="3" /> to give them their allowance of food at the proper time?

Then the Lord answered him,<n id="1" /> &#8220;You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from its stall,<n id="2" /> and lead it to water?<n id="3" />
