So when the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats<n id="1" /> and came to Capernaum<n id="2" /> looking for Jesus.p>

This<n id="1" /> is the bread that came down from heaven; it is not like the bread your ancestors<n id="2" /> ate, but then later died.<n id="3" /> The one who eats<n id="4" /> this bread will live forever.&#8221;p>

There was<n id="1" /> a lot of grumbling<n id="2" /> about him among the crowds.<n id="3" /> Some were saying, &#8220;He is a good man,&#8221; but others, &#8220;He deceives the common people.&#8221;<n id="4" />

<p class="bodytext">Then the Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> said to one another, &#8220;Where is he<n id="2" /> going to go that we cannot find him?<n id="3" /> He is not going to go to the Jewish people dispersed<n id="4" /> among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he?<n id="5" />

So the Pharisees asked him again how he had gained his sight.<n id="1" /> He replied,<n id="2" /> &#8220;He put mud<n id="3" /> on my eyes and I washed, and now<n id="4" /> I am able to see.&#8221;p>

The Jewish leaders<n id="1" /> surrounded him and asked,<n id="2" /> &#8220;How long will you keep us in suspense?<n id="3" /> If you are the Christ,<n id="4" /> tell us plainly.&#8221;<n id="5" />

(His disciples did not understand these things when they first happened,<n id="1" /> but when Jesus was glorified,<n id="2" /> then they remembered that these things were written about him and that these things had happened<n id="3" /> to him.)<n id="4" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">When he had said these things,<n id="1" /> Jesus went out with his disciples across the Kidron Valley.<n id="2" /> There was an orchard<n id="3" /> there, and he and his disciples went into it.

Jesus replied,<n id="1" /> &#8220;I have spoken publicly to the world. I always taught in the synagogues<n id="2" /> and in the temple courts,<n id="3" /> where all the Jewish people<n id="4" /> assemble together. I<n id="5" /> have said nothing in secret.

<p class="bodytext">Pilate told them,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Take him yourselves and pass judgment on him<n id="2" /> according to your own law!&#8221;<n id="3" /> The Jewish leaders<n id="4" /> replied,<n id="5" /> &#8220;We cannot legally put anyone to death.&#8221;<n id="6" />

<p class="bodytext">From this point on, Pilate tried<n id="1" /> to release him. But the Jewish leaders<n id="2" /> shouted out,<n id="3" /> &#8220;If you release this man,<n id="4" /> you are no friend of Caesar!<n id="5" /> Everyone who claims to be a king<n id="6" /> opposes Caesar!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Then they<n id="1" /> shouted out, &#8220;Away with him! Away with him!<n id="2" /> Crucify<n id="3" /> him!&#8221; Pilate asked,<n id="4" /> &#8220;Shall I crucify your king?&#8221; The high priests replied, &#8220;We have no king except Caesar!&#8221;

Then the chief priests of the Jews<n id="1" /> said to Pilate, &#8220;Do not write, &#8216;The king of the Jews,&#8217; but rather, &#8216;This man said, I am king of the Jews.&#8217;&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Now when the soldiers crucified<n id="1" /> Jesus, they took his clothes and made four shares, one for each soldier,<n id="2" /> and the tunic<n id="3" /> remained. (Now the tunic<n id="4" /> was seamless, woven from top to bottom as a single piece.)<n id="5" />

<p class="bodytext">Eight days later the disciples were again together in the house,<n id="1" /> and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked,<n id="2" /> Jesus came and stood among them and said, &#8220;Peace be with you!&#8221;

Simon Peter, Thomas<n id="1" /> (called Didymus),<n id="2" /> Nathanael<n id="3" /> (who was from Cana<n id="4" /> in Galilee), the sons<n id="5" /> of Zebedee,<n id="6" /> and two other disciples<n id="7" /> of his were together.

Meanwhile the other disciples came with the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from land, only about a hundred yards.<n id="1" />p>

and said, &#8220;Men of Galilee, why do you stand here<n id="1" /> looking up into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven<n id="2" /> will come back in the same way you saw him go into heaven.&#8221;p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">But Peter stood up<n id="1" /> with the eleven, raised his voice, and addressed them: &#8220;You men of Judea<n id="2" /> and all you who live in Jerusalem,<n id="3" /> know this<n id="4" /> and listen carefully to what I say.

You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors,<n id="1" /> saying to Abraham, &#8216;<b><i>And in your descendantsi>b><n id="2" /> <b><i>all the nationsi>b><n id="3" /> <b><i>of the earth will be blessedi>b>.&#8217;<n id="4" />
