When Joseph saw that his father placed his right hand on Ephraim’s head, it displeased him. ¹  So he took his father’s hand to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head.

This is the account of Esau, the father ¹  of the Edomites, in the hill country of Seir.

Tamar was told, ¹  “Look, your father-in-law is going up ²  to Timnah to shear his sheep.”

We said to my lord, ‘We have an aged father, and there is a young boy who was born when our father was old. ¹  The boy’s ²  brother is dead. He is the only one of his mother’s sons left, ³  and his father loves him.’

This is the account of Isaac, ¹  the son of Abraham. Abraham became the father of Isaac.

With her dying breath, ¹  she named him Ben-Oni. ²  But his father called him Benjamin instead. ³ 

And sons were also born ¹  to Shem (the older brother of Japheth), ²  the father of all the sons of Eber.

That is why ¹  a man leaves ²  his father and mother and unites with ³  his wife, and they become a new family. ⁴ 

The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Now Ham was the father of Canaan.) ¹ 

What’s more, ¹  she is indeed my sister, my father’s daughter, but not my mother’s daughter. She became my wife.

So Jacob came back to his father Isaac in Mamre, ¹  to Kiriath Arba ²  (that is, Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed. ³ 

They returned to their father Jacob in the land of Canaan and told him all the things that had happened to them, saying,

Joseph lived in Egypt, along with his father’s family. ¹  Joseph lived 110 years.

No longer will your name be ¹  Abram. Instead, your name will be Abraham ²  because I will make you ³  the father of a multitude of nations.

Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. ¹  The descendants of Dedan were the Asshurites, Letushites, and Leummites.

In this way God has snatched away your father’s livestock and given them to me.

but your father has humiliated ¹  me and changed my wages ten times. But God has not permitted him to do me any harm.

Jacob’s sons answered Shechem and his father Hamor deceitfully when they spoke because Shechem ¹  had violated their sister Dinah.

and I return safely to my father’s home, ¹  then the Lord will become my God.

My father may touch me! Then he’ll think I’m mocking him ¹  and I’ll bring a curse on myself instead of a blessing.”
