<p class="bodytext">Nevertheless, even among the rulers<n id="1" /> many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees<n id="2" /> they would not confess Jesus to be the Christ,<n id="3" /> so that they would not be put out of<n id="4" /> the synagogue.<n id="5" />

I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me should not remain in darkness.

And if I go and make ready<n id="1" /> a place for you, I will come again and take you<n id="2" /> to be with me,<n id="3" /> so that where I am you may be too.

And I will do whatever you ask in my name,<n id="1" /> so that the Father may be glorified<n id="2" /> in the Son.

but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may know<n id="1" /> that I love the Father.<n id="2" /> Get up, let us go from here.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

He takes away<n id="1" /> every branch that does not bear<n id="2" /> fruit in me. He<n id="3" /> prunes<n id="4" /> every branch that bears<n id="5" /> fruit so that it will bear more fruit.

They will put you out of<n id="1" /> the synagogue,<n id="2" /> yet a time<n id="3" /> is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God.<n id="4" />

Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive it,<n id="1" /> so that your joy may be complete.p>

Now we know that you know everything<n id="1" /> and do not need anyone<n id="2" /> to ask you anything.<n id="3" /> Because of this<n id="4" /> we believe that you have come from God.&#8221;p>

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering,<n id="1" /> but take courage<n id="2" /> &#8211; I have conquered the world.&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

Now this<n id="1" /> is eternal life<n id="2" /> &#8211; that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ,<n id="3" /> whom you sent.

But now I am coming to you, and I am saying these things in the world, so they may experience<n id="1" /> my joy completed<n id="2" /> in themselves.

I made known your name to them, and I will continue to make it known,<n id="1" /> so that the love you have loved me with may be in them, and I may be in them.&#8221;p>

But it is your custom that I release one prisoner<n id="1" /> for you at the Passover.<n id="2" /> So do you want me to release for you the king of the Jews?&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">Again Pilate went out and said to the Jewish leaders,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Look, I am bringing him out to you, so that you may know that I find no reason for an accusation<n id="2" /> against him.&#8221;

And the person who saw it<n id="1" /> has testified (and his testimony is true, and he<n id="2" /> knows that he is telling the truth),<n id="3" /> so that you also may believe.

You did not choose me, but I chose you<n id="1" /> and appointed you to go and bear<n id="2" /> fruit, fruit that remains,<n id="3" /> so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.

<p class="bodytext">Then, because it was the day of preparation, so that the bodies should not stay on the crosses on the Sabbath<n id="1" /> (for that Sabbath was an especially important one),<n id="2" /> the Jewish leaders<n id="3" /> asked Pilate to have the victims&#8217; legs<n id="4" /> broken<n id="5" /> and the bodies taken down.<n id="6" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now<n id="1" /> this was<n id="2" /> John&#8217;s<n id="3" /> testimony<n id="4" /> when the Jewish leaders<n id="5" /> sent<n id="6" /> priests and Levites from Jerusalem<n id="7" /> to ask him, &#8220;Who are you?&#8221;<n id="8" />

<p class="bodytext">For this is the way<n id="1" /> God loved the world: He gave his one and only<n id="2" /> Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish<n id="3" /> but have eternal life.<n id="4" />
