There will be two women grinding grain together;<n id="1" /> one will be taken and the other left.&#8221;p>

&#8220;Two men went up<n id="1" /> to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee<n id="2" /> and the other a tax collector.<n id="3" />

So<n id="1" /> he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree<n id="2" /> to see him, because Jesus<n id="3" /> was going to pass that way.

but<n id="1" /> they could not find a way to do it,<n id="2" /> for all the people hung on his words.<n id="3" />p>

The<n id="1" /> chief priests and the experts in the law<n id="2" /> were trying to find some way<n id="3" /> to execute<n id="4" /> Jesus,<n id="5" /> for they were afraid of the people.<n id="6" />p>

He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard<n id="1" /> how he might<n id="2" /> betray Jesus,<n id="3" /> handing him over to them.<n id="4" />

Jesus<n id="1" /> sent Peter and John, saying, &#8220;Go and prepare the Passover<n id="2" /> for us to eat.&#8221;<n id="3" />

And he said to them, &#8220;I have earnestly desired<n id="1" /> to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.

When<n id="1" /> those who were around him saw what was about to happen, they said, &#8220;Lord, should<n id="2" /> we use our swords?&#8221;<n id="3" />

Then<n id="1" /> they returned and prepared aromatic spices<n id="2" /> and perfumes.<n id="3" />p> <p class="bodytext">On the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.<n id="4" />p>

<t /><p class="bodytext">Now on the first day<n id="1" /> of the week, at early dawn, the women<n id="2" /> went to the tomb, taking the aromatic spices<n id="3" /> they had prepared.

He also told them a parable:<n id="1" /> &#8220;No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews<n id="2" /> it on an old garment. If he does, he will have torn<n id="3" /> the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old.<n id="4" />

So<n id="1" /> Mary said, &#8220;Yes,<n id="2" /> I am a servant<n id="3" /> of the Lord; let this happen to me<n id="4" /> according to your word.&#8221;<n id="5" /> Then<n id="6" /> the angel departed from her.p>

For the instant<n id="1" /> the sound of your greeting reached my ears,<n id="2" /> the baby in my womb leaped for joy.<n id="3" />

Her<n id="1" /> neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown<n id="2" /> great mercy to her, and they rejoiced<n id="3" /> with her.p>

<p class="bodytext">On<n id="1" /> the eighth day<n id="2" /> they came to circumcise the child, and they wanted to name<n id="3" /> him Zechariah after his father.

<p class="bodytext">And the child kept growing<n id="1" /> and becoming strong<n id="2" /> in spirit, and he was in the wilderness<n id="3" /> until the day he was revealed<n id="4" /> to Israel.p>

So they hurried off and located Mary and Joseph, and found the baby lying in a manger.<n id="1" />

and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He<n id="1" /> unrolled<n id="2" /> the scroll and found the place where it was written,p>

<p class="bodytext">Then<n id="1" /> he rolled up<n id="2" /> the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on<n id="3" /> him.
