then<n id="1" /> the man must bring his wife to the priest, and he must bring the offering required for her, one tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he must not pour olive oil on it or put frankincense on it, because it is a grain offering of suspicion,<n id="2" /> a grain offering for remembering,<n id="3" /> for bringing<n id="4" /> iniquity to remembrance.p>

For they are entirely given<n id="1" /> to me from among the Israelites. I have taken them for myself instead of<n id="2" /> all who open the womb, the firstborn sons of all the Israelites.

&#8220;Tell the Israelites, &#8216;If any<n id="1" /> of you or of your posterity become ceremonially defiled by touching a dead body, or are on a journey far away, then he may<n id="2" /> observe the Passover to the <sc>Lordsc>.

<p class="bodytext">But<n id="1" /> the man who is ceremonially clean, and was not on a journey, and fails<n id="2" /> to keep the Passover, that person must be cut off from his people.<n id="3" /> Because he did not bring the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s offering at its appointed time, that man must bear his sin.<n id="4" />

If a resident foreigner lives<n id="1" /> among you and wants to keep<n id="2" /> the Passover to the <sc>Lordsc>, he must do so according to the statute of the Passover, and according to its custom. You must have<n id="3" /> the same<n id="4" /> statute for the resident foreigner<n id="5" /> and for the one who was born in the land.&#8217;&#8221;p>

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">Moses said to Hobab son of Reuel, the Midianite, Moses&#8217; father-in-law,<n id="2" /> &#8220;We are journeying to the place about which the <sc>Lordsc> said, &#8216;I will give it to you.&#8217; Come with us and we will treat you well,<n id="3" /> for the <sc>Lordsc> has promised good things<n id="4" /> for Israel.&#8221;

Did I conceive this entire people?<n id="1" /> Did I give birth to<n id="2" /> them, that you should say to me, &#8216;Carry them in your arms, as a foster father<n id="3" /> bears a nursing child,&#8217; to the land which you swore to their fathers?

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> said to Moses, &#8220;Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know are elders of the people and officials<n id="2" /> over them, and bring them to the tent of meeting; let them take their position there with you.

but a whole month,<n id="1" /> until it comes out your nostrils and makes you sick,<n id="2" /> because you have despised<n id="3" /> the <sc>Lordsc> who is among you and have wept before him, saying, &#8220;Why<n id="4" /> did we ever come out of Egypt?&#8221;&#8217;&#8221;p>

Only do not rebel against the <sc>Lordsc>, and do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us.<n id="1" /> Their protection<n id="2" /> has turned aside from them, but the <sc>Lordsc> is with us. Do not fear them!&#8221;p>

then they will tell it to the inhabitants<n id="1" /> of this land. They have heard that you, <sc>Lordsc>, are among this people, that you, <sc>Lord,sc> are seen face to face,<n id="2" /> that your cloud stands over them, and that you go before them by day in a pillar of cloud and in a pillar of fire by night.

For all the people have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and yet have tempted<n id="1" /> me now these ten times,<n id="2" /> and have not obeyed me,<n id="3" />

You will by no means enter into the land where<n id="1" /> I swore<n id="2" /> to settle<n id="3" /> you. The only exceptions are Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

And the priest is to make atonement<n id="1" /> for the whole community of the Israelites, and they will be forgiven,<n id="2" /> because it was unintentional and they have brought their offering, an offering made by fire to the <sc>Lordsc>, and their purification offering before the <sc>Lordsc>, for their unintentional offense.

And they assembled against Moses and Aaron, saying to them, &#8220;You take too much upon yourselves,<n id="1" /> seeing that the whole community is holy, every one of them, and the <sc>Lordsc> is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the community of the <sc>Lordsc>?&#8221;p>

Does it seem too small a thing to you that the God of Israel has separated you from the community of Israel to bring you near to himself, to perform the service of the tabernacle of the <sc>Lord,sc> and to stand before the community to minister to them?

But if the <sc>Lordsc> does something entirely new,<n id="1" /> and the earth opens its mouth and swallows them up<n id="2" /> along with all that they have, and they<n id="3" /> go down alive to the grave,<n id="4" /> then you will know that these men have despised the <sc>Lordsc>!&#8221;p>

As for the censers of these men who sinned at the cost of their lives,<n id="1" /> they must be made<n id="2" /> into hammered sheets for covering the altar, because they presented them before the <sc>Lordsc> and sanctified them. They will become a sign to the Israelites.&#8221;

Then Moses said to Aaron, &#8220;Take the censer, put burning coals from the altar in it, place incense on it, and go quickly into the assembly and make atonement for them, for wrath has gone out from the <sc>Lordsc> &#8211; the plague has begun!&#8221;

But I have given<n id="1" /> to the Levites for an inheritance the tithes of the Israelites that are offered<n id="2" /> to the <sc>Lordsc> as a raised offering. That is why I said to them that among the Israelites they are to have no inheritance.&#8221;p>
