<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc> solemnly warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and all the seers, &#8220;Turn back from your evil ways; obey my commandments and rules that are recorded in the law. I ordered your ancestors to keep this law and sent my servants the prophets to remind you of its demands.&#8221;<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">King Hezekiah<n id="1" /> stationed the Levites in the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s temple with cymbals and stringed instruments, just as David, Gad the king&#8217;s prophet,<n id="2" /> and Nathan the prophet had ordered. (The <sc>Lordsc> had actually given these orders through his prophets.)

I did not send those prophets, though they claim to be prophesying in my name. They may be saying, &#8216;No war or famine will happen in this land.&#8217; But I, the <sc>Lordsc>, say this about<n id="1" /> them: &#8216;War and starvation will kill those prophets.&#8217;<n id="2" />

<p class="poetry">So then I, the <sc>Lordsc> who rules over all,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">have something to say concerning the prophets of Jerusalem:<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8216;I will make these prophets eat the bitter food of sufferingp> <p class="poetry">and drink the poison water of judgment.<n id="3" />p> <p class="poetry">For the prophets of Jerusalem are the reason<n id="4" />p> <p class="poetry">that ungodliness<n id="5" /> has spread throughout the land.&#8217;&#8221;p>

Then the prophet Jeremiah told the prophet Hananiah, &#8220;Listen, Hananiah! The <sc>Lordsc> did not send you! You are making these people trust in a lie!<n id="1" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">The prophet Jeremiah sent a letter to the exiles Nebuchadnezzar had carried off from Jerusalem<n id="1" /> to Babylon. It was addressed to the elders who were left among the exiles, to the priests, to the prophets, and to all the other people who were exiled in Babylon.<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;&#8216;As for the prophet, if he is made a fool by being deceived into speaking a prophetic word &#8211; I, the <sc>Lordsc>, have made a fool of<n id="1" /> that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him and destroy him from among my people Israel.

Moses said to him, &#8220;Are you jealous for me?<n id="1" /> I wish that<n id="2" /> all the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s people were prophets, that the <sc>Lordsc> would put his Spirit on them!&#8221;

<p class="bodytext">The <sc>Lordsc><n id="1" /> said, &#8220;Hear now my words: If there is a prophet among you,<n id="2" /> I the <sc>Lordsc><n id="3" /> will make myself known to him in a vision; I will speak with him in a dream.

Suppose a prophet or one who foretells by dreams<n id="1" /> should appear among you and show you a sign or wonder,<n id="2" />

I will raise up a prophet like you for them from among their fellow Israelites. I will put my words in his mouth and he will speak to them whatever I command.

(Now it used to be in Israel that whenever someone went to inquire of God he would say, &#8220;Come on, let&#8217;s go to the seer.&#8221; For today&#8217;s prophet used to be called a seer.)

When Saul and his servant<n id="1" /> arrived at Gibeah, a company of prophets was coming out to meet him. Then the spirit of God rushed upon Saul<n id="2" /> and he prophesied among them.

<p class="bodytext">A man who was from there replied, &#8220;And who is their father?&#8221; Therefore this became a proverb: &#8220;Is even Saul among the prophets?&#8221;

Then Gad the prophet said to David, &#8220;Don&#8217;t stay in the stronghold. Go to the land of Judah.&#8221; So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.p>

The king said to Nathan the prophet, &#8220;Look! I am living in a palace made from cedar, while the ark of God sits in the middle of a tent.&#8221;

But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and David&#8217;s elite warriors<n id="1" /> did not ally themselves<n id="2" /> with Adonijah.

The king was told, &#8220;Nathan the prophet is here.&#8221; Nathan entered and bowed before the king with his face to the floor.<n id="1" />

<p class="bodytext">King David said, &#8220;Summon Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet,<n id="1" /> and Benaiah son of Jehoiada.&#8221; They came before the king,

There Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet will anoint<n id="1" /> him king over Israel; then blow the trumpet and declare, &#8216;Long live King Solomon!&#8217;
