The <sc>Lordsc> will designate you as his holy people just as he promised you, if you keep his commandments<n id="1" /> and obey him.<n id="2" />

The <sc>Lordsc> will greatly multiply your children,<n id="1" /> the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your soil in the land which he<n id="2" /> promised your ancestors<n id="3" /> he would give you.

<p class="poetry">Remember the ancient days;p> <p class="poetry">bear in mind<n id="1" /> the years of past generations.<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">Ask your father and he will inform you,p> <p class="poetry">your elders, and they will tell you.p>

Look, he<n id="1" /> has placed the land in front of you!<n id="2" /> Go up, take possession of it, just as the <sc>Lordsc>, the God of your ancestors, said to do. Do not be afraid or discouraged!&#8221;

Then the <sc>Lordsc> said to me, &#8220;Do not harass Moab and provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land as your territory. This is because I have given Ar<n id="1" /> to the descendants of Lot<n id="2" /> as their possession.

But when you come close to the Ammonites, do not harass or provoke them because I am not giving you any of the Ammonites&#8217; land as your possession; I have already given it to Lot&#8217;s descendants<n id="1" /> as their possession.p>

But the <sc>Lordsc> was angry at me because of you and would not listen to me. Instead, he<n id="1" /> said to me, &#8220;Enough of that!<n id="2" /> Do not speak to me anymore about this matter.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Again, however, pay very careful attention,<n id="1" /> lest you forget the things you have seen and disregard them for the rest of your life; instead teach them to your children and grandchildren.

But the <sc>Lordsc> became angry with me because of you and vowed that I would never cross the Jordan nor enter the good land that he<n id="1" /> is about to give you.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">Then when the <sc>Lordsc> your God brings you to the land he promised your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give you &#8211; a land with large, fine cities you did not build,

<t /><p class="bodytext">If you obey these ordinances and are careful to do them, the <sc>Lordsc> your God will faithfully keep covenant with you<n id="1" /> as he promised<n id="2" /> your ancestors.

He will love and bless you, and make you numerous. He will bless you with many children,<n id="1" /> with the produce of your soil, your grain, your new wine, your oil, the offspring of your oxen, and the young of your flocks in the land which he promised your ancestors to give you.

You must burn the images of their gods, but do not covet the silver and gold that covers them so much that you take it for yourself and thus become ensnared by it; for it is abhorrent<n id="1" /> to the <sc>Lordsc> your God.

You must remember the <sc>Lordsc> your God, for he is the one who gives ability to get wealth; if you do this he will confirm his covenant that he made by oath to your ancestors,<n id="1" /> even as he has to this day.

Understand today that the <sc>Lordsc> your God who goes before you is a devouring fire; he will defeat and subdue them before you. You will dispossess and destroy them quickly just as he<n id="1" /> has told you.

<t /><p class="bodytext">These are the statutes and ordinances you must be careful to obey as long as you live in the land the <sc>Lordsc>, the God of your ancestors,<n id="1" /> has given you to possess.<n id="2" />

<t /><p class="bodytext">On the other hand, you may slaughter and eat meat as you please when the <sc>Lordsc> your God blesses you<n id="1" /> in all your villages.<n id="2" /> Both the ritually pure and impure may eat it, whether it is a gazelle or an ibex.

<t /><p class="bodytext">When the <sc>Lordsc> your God extends your borders as he said he would do and you say, &#8220;I want to eat meat just as I please,&#8221;<n id="1" /> you may do so as you wish.<n id="2" />

If the place he<n id="1" /> chooses to locate his name is too far for you, you may slaughter any of your herd and flock he<n id="2" /> has given you just as I have stipulated; you may eat them in your villages<n id="3" /> just as you wish.

Pay careful attention to all these things I am commanding you so that it may always go well with you and your children after you when you do what is good and right in the sight of the <sc>Lordsc> your God.p>
