The Israelites said to Samuel, &#8220;Keep<n id="1" /> crying out to the <sc>Lordsc> our<n id="2" /> God so that he may save us<n id="3" /> from the hand of the Philistines!&#8221;

Now, O <sc>Lordsc> our God, rescue us from his power, so that all the kingdoms of the earth will know that you, <sc>Lordsc>, are the only God.&#8221;p>

O <sc>Lordsc> our God, all this wealth, which we have collected to build a temple for you to honor your holy name, comes from you; it all belongs to you.

Respect the <sc>Lordsc> and make careful decisions, for the <sc>Lordsc> our God disapproves of injustice, partiality, and bribery.&#8221;<n id="1" />p>

Our God, you drove out<n id="1" /> the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and gave it as a permanent possession<n id="2" /> to the descendants of your friend<n id="3" /> Abraham.

For our fathers were unfaithful; they did what is evil in the sight of<n id="1" /> the <sc>Lordsc> our God and abandoned him! They turned<n id="2" /> away from the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s dwelling place and rejected him.<n id="3" />

He has with him mere human strength,<n id="1" /> but the <sc>Lordsc> our God is with us to help us and fight our battles!&#8221; The army<n id="2" /> was encouraged by the words of King Hezekiah of Judah.p>

Hezekiah says, &#8220;The <sc>Lordsc> our God will rescue us from the power<n id="1" /> of the king of Assyria.&#8221; But he is misleading you and you will die of hunger and thirst!<n id="2" />

<p class="bodytext">I called for a fast there by the Ahava Canal, so that we might humble ourselves before our God and seek from him a safe journey<n id="1" /> for us, our children, and all our property.

and I weighed out to them the silver, the gold, and the vessels intended for the temple of our God &#8211; items that the king, his advisers, his officials, and all Israel who were present had contributed.

<p class="bodytext">&#8220;Everything that has happened to us has come about because of our wicked actions and our great guilt. Even so, our God, you have exercised restraint<n id="1" /> toward our iniquities and have given us a remnant such as this.

Therefore let us enact<n id="1" /> a covenant with our God to send away all these women and their offspring, in keeping with your counsel, my lord,<n id="2" /> and that of those who respect<n id="3" /> the commandments of our God. And let it be done according to the law.

<p class="bodytext">Hear, O our God, for we are despised! Return their reproach on their own head! Reduce them to plunder in a land of exile!

Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, gather there with us. Our God will fight for us!&#8221;p>

<p class="bodytext">Then I<n id="1" /> said, &#8220;The thing that you are doing is wrong!<n id="2" /> Should you not conduct yourselves<n id="3" /> in the fear of our God in order to avoid the reproach of the Gentiles who are our enemies?

for they had not met the Israelites with food<n id="1" /> and water, but instead had hired Balaam to curse them. (Our God, however, turned the curse into blessing.)

<p class="poetry">We heard about God&#8217;s mighty deeds, now we have seen them,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">in the city of the <sc>Lordsc>, the invincible Warrior,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">in the city of our God.p> <p class="poetry">God makes it permanently secure.<n id="3" /> (Selah)p>

<p class="poetry">Look, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master,p> <p class="poetry">as the eyes of a female servant look to the hand of her mistress,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">so my eyes will look to the <sc>Lordsc>, our God, until he shows us favor.p>

<p class="poetry">At that time they will say,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">&#8220;Look, here<n id="2" /> is our God!p> <p class="poetry">We waited for him and he delivered us.p> <p class="poetry">Here<n id="3" /> is the <sc>Lordsc>! We waited for him.p> <p class="poetry">Let&#8217;s rejoice and celebrate his deliverance!&#8221;p>

Now, O <sc>Lordsc> our God, rescue us from his power, so all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the <sc>Lordsc>.&#8221;<n id="1" />p>
