<p class="bodytext">The Israelites did all the work according to all that the <sc>Lordsc> had commanded Moses.

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">During<n id="2" /> that long period of time<n id="3" /> the king of Egypt died, and the Israelites<n id="4" /> groaned because of the slave labor. They cried out, and their desperate cry<n id="5" /> because of their slave labor went up to God.

<p class="bodytext">Moses said<n id="1" /> to God, &#8220;If<n id="2" /> I go to the Israelites and tell them, &#8216;The God of your fathers has sent me to you,&#8217; and they ask me, &#8216;What is his name?&#8217;<n id="3" /> &#8211; what should I say<n id="4" /> to them?&#8221;p>

God also said to Moses, &#8220;You must say this to the Israelites, &#8216;The <sc>Lordsc><n id="1" /> &#8211; the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob &#8211; has sent me to you. This is my name<n id="2" /> forever, and this is my memorial from generation to generation.&#8217;<n id="3" />p>

The Israelite foremen whom Pharaoh&#8217;s slave masters had set over them were beaten and were asked,<n id="1" /> &#8220;Why did you not complete your requirement for brickmaking as in the past &#8211; both yesterday and today?&#8221;<n id="2" />p>

Pharaoh will not listen to you.<n id="1" /> I will reach into<n id="2" /> Egypt and bring out my regiments,<n id="3" /> my people the Israelites, from the land of Egypt with great acts of judgment.

But against any of the Israelites not even a dog will bark<n id="1" /> against either people or animals,<n id="2" /> so that you may know that the <sc>Lordsc> distinguishes<n id="3" /> between Egypt and Israel.&#8217;

<p class="bodytext">So Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the <sc>Lordsc> hardened Pharaoh&#8217;s heart, and he did not release the Israelites from his land.p>

then you will say, &#8216;It is the sacrifice<n id="1" /> of the <sc>Lordsc>&#8217;s Passover, when he passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt, when he struck<n id="2" /> Egypt and delivered our households.&#8217;&#8221; The people bowed down low<n id="3" /> to the ground,

Pharaoh<n id="1" /> summoned Moses and Aaron in the night and said, &#8220;Get up, get out<n id="2" /> from among my people, both you and the Israelites! Go, serve the <sc>Lordsc> as you have requested!<n id="3" />

When Pharaoh stubbornly refused<n id="1" /> to release us, the <sc>Lordsc> killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of people to the firstborn of animals.<n id="2" /> That is why I am sacrificing<n id="3" /> to the <sc>Lordsc> the first male offspring of every womb, but all my firstborn sons I redeem.&#8217;

<p class="bodytext">Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph<n id="1" /> had made the Israelites solemnly swear,<n id="2" /> &#8220;God will surely attend<n id="3" /> to you, and you will carry<n id="4" /> my bones up from this place with you.&#8221;p>

&#8220;Tell the Israelites that they must turn and camp<n id="1" /> before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea; you are to camp by the sea before Baal Zephon opposite it.<n id="2" />

<t /><n id="1" /><p class="bodytext">When<n id="2" /> they journeyed from Elim, the entire company<n id="3" /> of Israelites came to the Desert of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their exodus<n id="4" /> from the land of Egypt.

The Israelites said to them, &#8220;If only we had died<n id="1" /> by the hand of the <sc>Lordsc> in the land of Egypt, when we sat by<n id="2" /> the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full,<n id="3" /> for you have brought us out into this desert to kill<n id="4" /> this whole assembly with hunger!&#8221;p>

&#8220;I have heard the murmurings of the Israelites. Tell them, &#8216;During the evening<n id="1" /> you will eat meat,<n id="2" /> and in the morning you will be satisfied<n id="3" /> with bread, so that you may know<n id="4" /> that I am the <sc>Lordsc> your God.&#8217;&#8221;<n id="5" />p>

When<n id="1" /> the Israelites saw it, they said to one another,<n id="2" /> &#8220;What is it?&#8221; because they did not know what it was.<n id="3" /> Moses said to them, &#8220;It is the bread<n id="4" /> that the <sc>Lordsc> has given you for food.<n id="5" />p>

But the people were very thirsty<n id="1" /> there for water, and they murmured against Moses and said, &#8220;Why in the world<n id="2" /> did you bring us up out of Egypt &#8211; to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?&#8221;<n id="3" />p>

<p class="bodytext">He called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the contending of the Israelites and because of their testing the <sc>Lordsc>,<n id="1" /> saying, &#8220;Is the <sc>Lordsc> among us or not?&#8221;p>

I will meet with you there,<n id="1" /> and<n id="2" /> from above the atonement lid, from between the two cherubim that are over the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will command you for the Israelites.p>
