From Aroer, ¹  which is at the edge of Wadi Arnon (it is the city in the wadi), ²  all the way to Gilead there was not a town able to resist us – the Lord our God gave them all to us.

But the Lord became angry with me because of you and vowed that I would never cross the Jordan nor enter the good land that he ¹  is about to give you. ² 

When you come to the land the Lord your God is giving you and take it over and live in it and then say, “I will select a king like all the nations surrounding me,”

As for me, the Lord was also angry with me on your account. He said, “You also will not be able to go there.

the Lord our God delivered him over to us and we struck him down, along with his sons ¹  and everyone else. ² 

They did not see ¹  what he did to you in the desert before you reached this place,

Instead, the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy ¹  is one of hills and valleys, a land that drinks in water from the rains, ² 

Make sure you do not turn away to serve and worship other gods! ¹ 

for you have not yet come to the final stop ¹  and inheritance the Lord your God is giving you.

The judges will thoroughly investigate the matter, and if the witness should prove to be false and to have given false testimony against the accused, ¹ 

you may bring her back to your house. She must shave her head, ¹  trim her nails,

The Lord will plague you with deadly diseases ¹  until he has completely removed you from the land you are about to possess.

The Lord will deliver them over to you and you will do to them according to the whole commandment I have given you.

“I said, ‘I want to cut them in pieces. ¹  I want to make people forget they ever existed.

When you look up ¹  to the sky ²  and see the sun, moon, and stars – the whole heavenly creation ³  – you must not be seduced to worship and serve them, ⁴  for the Lord your God has assigned ⁵  them to all the people ⁶  of the world. ⁷ 

Then the Lord will make you return to Egypt by ship, over a route I said to you that you would never see again. There you will sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.”

“Let me pass through your land; I will keep strictly to the roadway. ¹  I will not turn aside to the right or the left.

The Lord said to me, “Look! I have already begun to give over Sihon and his land to you. Start right now to take his land as your possession.”

You approached and stood at the foot of the mountain, a mountain ablaze to the sky above it ¹  and yet dark with a thick cloud. ² 

Moreover, at that same time the Lord commanded me to teach you statutes and ordinances for you to keep in the land which you are about to enter and possess. ¹
