So then, the one who marries<n id="1" /> his own virgin does well, but the one who does not, does better.<n id="2" />p>

A person should examine himself first,<n id="1" /> and in this way<n id="2" /> let him eat the bread and drink of the cup.

For the one who eats and drinks without careful regard<n id="1" /> for the body eats and drinks judgment against himself.

It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful.

But if there is no interpreter, he should be silent in the church. Let him speak to himself and to God.

<t /><p class="bodytext">Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? We don&#8217;t need letters of recommendation to you or from you as some other people do, do we?<n id="1" />

But as God&#8217;s servants,<n id="1" /> we have commended ourselves in every way,<n id="2" /> with great endurance, in persecutions,<n id="3" /> in difficulties, in distresses,

And they did this not just as we had hoped, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and to us by the will of God.

For it is not the person who commends himself who is approved, but the person the Lord commends.p>

Instead,<n id="1" /> be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you.<n id="2" />p>

speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music<n id="1" /> in<n id="2" /> your hearts to the Lord,

<p class="poetry">but emptied himselfp> <p class="poetry">by taking on the form of a slave,<n id="1" />p> <p class="poetry">by looking like other men,<n id="2" />p> <p class="poetry">and by sharing in human nature.<n id="3" />p>

As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his own children,

It was not because we do not have that right, but to give ourselves as an example for you to imitate.<n id="1" />

For those who have served well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves<n id="1" /> and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus.<n id="2" />p>

And no one assumes this honor<n id="1" /> on his own initiative,<n id="2" /> but only when called to it by God,<n id="3" /> as in fact Aaron was.

And see to it that no one becomes<n id="1" /> an immoral or godless person like Esau, who <i>sold his own birthright for a single meali>.<n id="2" />
